I think Jurrjens is gone since we probably won't resign him at the end of his contract anyways and his value should be at his max depending on if he continues to produce like he can. That makes room for one of the guys.
Nah. He's not going anywhere this year unless we can get a guy like McCutchen or Granderson. We need a big bat in the outfield if we're gonna trade JJ. I do think he's gone at the end of his contract. I think we'll keep close to spending like the Yanks/Red Sox, etc, but with Boras, I see us maxing out our offer at a considerably lower price than the likes of the big spenders these days, although, with Lowe and Hudson getting older, we may only have 1 of them in 2013 and need the solid presence and experience that Tommy and JJ and even Minor by that time.

We're going to have to have room at the end of the year some how and why not trade a guy that you'll only have for two more years anyways?
Might not snab you McCutchen but if you pair him up with let's say Beachy and another bat, he's going to bring back a significant major league ready hitter in return

I promise you Lowe won't be here in 2013!

Actually that is only one of several positions we could possibly trade him for. A big bat in LF, a CF, a 3B, and a SS are all options. They will have this year to see how some of their SS prospects do, and I'm sure they are hoping Mycal Jones' bat keeps improving while getting comfortable in CF. All those positions are question marks for the next two years at this point though.

I don't see JJ making it past this year, especially if he has a good year. He will start getting expensive quickly, and it is doubtful he will sign a long term contract. With Delgado and Tehran on the cusp of trying their talents out in the bigs, JJ is expendable and will bring in a very nice piece to fill one of our voids.
Since this might be his last year as a Brave, I am going to enjoy JJ's outings as much as I can this year. I like watching him pitch.

maybe a JJ for an Adam Jones maybe?

Even though he doesn't have the best attitude I'd love to see us go after Matt Kemp

I haven't seen this mentioned on here, but Chipper is going back to low-top spikes with the high solid blue socks.

A healthy JJ matching up against other #3's is going to result in a lotta wins for us
I think JJ last year is a lot more like the real JJ.
Number 3 type guy is about his ceiling and I don't think he's demonstrably better than most number 3s in this league... JMO.

You know, I was about to type that Bobby could straighten him out. And then I got sad as frick for realizing he's not there anymore
But that kind of player is high risk/high reward. Id be down
ETA: I'd really like to see us get some speed on the team though. Just one or 2 players. All we have for speed is Heyward and Mcclouth. We play'd small ball and had no speed last year. Maybe a Gary Matthews JR type.

Matt Kemp will give you some of that but we definitely need someone with the ability to swipe 40+ bags
If Chipper retires, let's sign Juan Pierre at the end of the year. He'll give you 40 or 50+.
Juan Pierre (LF)
Matt Kemp (CF)
Heyward (RF)
Uggla (2B)
Mac (C)
Prado (3B)
Freeman (1B)
and who knows for SS..no idea what we're going to do here

Just saw that Podsednik is still out there still unsigned
why the hell are we not going after this guy as at the very least a 4th OF
And if Mclouth struggles like he will, then boom, we have someone with speed and can hit for average at the top of the lineup. Makes no sense why we wouldn't go after him, especially when we can get him on the cheap

I was hoping we would have traded for him last year.
Love his game. Would be perfect for this team.

that dude is the definition of a pesky hitter
Posted on 2/11/11 at 2:44 pm to Factsman
Definitely... I bet he ranks near the top of guys seeing the most pitches.

Completely agree
The only real negative would be adding another lefty to an already heavy lefty squad which I'm sure is a reason we're not making a move for him.
It'd also be nice for those games that Chip can't play to be able to plug someone like that in left. I like Hinske and all but I'd rather him come off the bench late in games or spot start him against select pitchers
Move Prado to the 2 and J to the 3..I like it

1 - Podsednik (LH)
2 - Prado (RH)
3 - JHey (LH)
4 - Uggla (RH)
5 - Chipper (S)
6 - BMac (LH)
7 - AGon (RH)
8 - Freeman (LH)
Assuming they signed Podsednik, I think that would be a reasonable everyday lineup. The problem is that all of our bench guys are lefties.
