Think Wazzu and OSU will go to Mountain West or AAU.

Unless they ask B12 or B1G for 1/2 share or something. 50% of 30 mil is still better than the 4 or 5 in the MWC

I think they try to beg the ACC for a slot. Not sure what happens though.

I selfishly want Wazzu and Oregon state in the Big 12 just so we can get some semblance of the old Sark After Dark action against teams they should never be in games with, yet somehow are close.

Oregon State has one of the bets young coaches in the game, too. I genuinely don't know how those teams ever can recruit at decent levels again. They'll be lucky to outrank Boise State and Wyoming now.

This severely impacts both programs, Wazzu I know has been taking out loans to keep their athletic programs afloat for years. A MWC check won’t help them in the slightest.

Either Big 12 or MWC. The PAC is dead.

PACIFIC:

Cal
Stanford
Washington St
Oregon St
San Diego St
Fresno St
UNLV
San Jose St

MOUNTAIN:

Boise St
Montana
Nevada
Colorado St
Utah St
Wyoming
Air Force
New Mexico

It could always be worse…at least they would able to have a shot at building a more consistent winner in a league like that. It helps them tremendously in that regard.

Stanford's reign as the school with the most National Titles (134) is gonna come to end.

They're gonna have to slash their Title IX darling status, and cut sports left and right...and athletes won't be coming left and right to play in the Mountain West and they don't have a National football brand to pay for all the other sports and be Independent ala Notre Dame.

Stanford was on its way to cutting 11 sports before the students sued..and before all this happened.

quote:

"We have new optimism based on new circumstances, including vigorous and broad-based philanthropic interest in Stanford Athletics on the part of our alumni, which have convinced us that raising the increased funds necessary to support all 36 of our varsity teams is an approach that can succeed," Stanford President Marc Tessier-Lavigne said.

They needed constant donations even with PAC12 money because they're and have been so ridiculously overextended in sports.

Good luck with Mountain West money or Independence.

Stanford or Cal to the MWC is not happening, period. Oregon St and Wazzu, yes.

If they can sway ND I think the B1G would love to bring Stanford as well. No idea what Cal can do. Maybe independent.

I always have said that the school that got screwed the most in realignment was Southern Miss.

But that title may now belong to Wazzu

People need to read what Stanford and Cal think of current issues and what their policies are.

This is all about football and neither have relevant in a while and their fans don’t care.

It’s nice seeing them left out

LaTech too.

They both have a history of punching above their weight class, but there aren't a lot of TV sets in Ruston and Hattiesburg.

A combination of getting left behind and hiring Ellis Johnson fricked USM for a decade but I believe they got themselves back on track by joining the Sun Belt.

LA Tech is lost so far in the wilderness right now I’m not sure how they are going to stay afloat

The Big 12 show=ud make a big show of wanting nothing to do with Stanford and Cal. The PAC12 was sneering at the thought of any of the Big12 religious schools joining them, and knowing who they are that was probably Stanford and Cal, so they can get fricked and should be told to do so.

Short term I agree with others who say Stanford just goes Independent. Long term I think ND is eventually forced into the Big 10 (unless they no longer want to compete at the highest level of college football) and once that happens ND and Stanford go to the Big 10.

Cal should just drop sports all together. The university as a whole doesn't seem to care about sports and their students/alumni seem to care less about sports. Heck even when I've traveled out to California you never see Cal fans. You'll see plenty of USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Arizona State fans. Heck you even see some Fresno State, Oregon State, UNLV, San Diego State and San Jose State fans. But you never see Cal fans.

Let's look at Cal from an athletics standpoint.

Football: Outside of a few good years under Jeff Tedford Cal has largely been a joke in football. If you want to go back to pre-World War II they do have some National Titles. Last one in 1937!!

Men's Basketball: One of the worst programs in the Power 5. Have one National Championship in 1959. Hasn't been to a final four since 1960.

Women's Basketball: Not much better. One Final Four in 2013. Not a single winning season since COVID. No National Titles.

Baseball: Not much of a factor. Two National Championships in 1947 and 1957. Only one CWS appearance in modern times (2011).

Softball: Outside of a stretch from 2002-2004 not much of a factor in a sport the West Coast dominated until the 2010's. One National Championship in 2002 and two runner up finishes in 2003 and 2004. UCLA and Stanford have had far better softball programs.

So to recap, last football National Title in 1937, last baseball National Title in 1957, last men's basketball National Title in 1960 and last softball National Title in 2002. What do they add on the sports front again?

TV markets don't matter that much at this point and you would still get the Bay Area market with Stanford.

Cal has done absolutely nothing to get a spot in one of the premiere conferences. Let them drop to a lower level.

My feeling is if Cal is smart they'll just drop football and move their other sports to the West Coast Conference. Honestly, it might be best just for Cal to drop sports altogether. Let UC-Berkeley focus on the academic side while UCLA becomes the athletic side of the UC system.

Honestly Oregon State deserves a spot in the Big 10 over Cal. At least Oregon State has done something in athletics this century. Baseball National Titles in 2006, 2007 and 2018. Softball had a Women's College World Series appearance in 2022. Football had some success in the early 2000's and has shown some signs of turning around. Far more investment into facilities than Cal. Basketball isn't good but no worse than Cal.

I know they would never get it simply due to perception, academics and market but Oregon State truly deserves a seat at the table more than Cal.

I was the first guy to make fun of the B12 when Texas and OU announced they were leaving.

Brett Yormark, the new commish has done a great job of being aggressive. That’s going to be a fun conference to watch.
