I thought the NCAA overstepped when they put PSU on probation, but I was way off. They deserved the death penalty.

quote:

CNN reported Friday that Joe Paterno knew of a 15-year-old boy who was allegedly raped by Sandusky in a Penn State bathroom in 1971. The victim, referred to as Victim A in the story, says Sandusky came up behind him in a bathroom, wrestled him to the ground and raped him. Victim A said he told his foster parents about the incident, and his foster father told him to call a couple of high-ranking officials at Penn State. Victim A made the call, and talked to two men who identified themselves as Jim and Joe. Victim A does not know who Jim was, but claims that Joe was Penn State coach Joe Paterno, telling CNN "I've heard that voice a million times. It was Joe Paterno."

quote:

Another story, this one from NBC News, reports that Joe Paterno wasn't the only coach who knew of Sandusky's crimes as far back as the 1970s, but that up to six Penn State assistants were aware.

Roast in hell

That foster father is a joke for making his son make those calls. WTF?

And cue the delusional apologists like that SMU fan and their ridiculous excuses and justifications.

It is by far the biggest scandal in NCAA history. Way worse than SMU. But the problem is that the NCAA bylaws have no concrete mechanism to punish something of this nature because it is so far beyond the range of what anyone could have anticipated.

Thinking back at how the national media kissed Paterno's arse makes me sick

There is an open ended provision for the member schools to basically vote someone off the island. There doesn't have to be an official reason.

i actually saw the Happy Valley documentary on Netflix the other night.

it was good but I won't rewatch it. I ignored the media coverage when it first broke because they followed 24-7 and I didn't care enough about it to follow it all.

quite a few of those Penn St. people come off as delusional as hell though.

My nephew married a man that attended Penn State. He's a Paterno apologist. He brought it up a few Thanksgivings ago and I didn't think he was going to make it out of the house. It's shame Paterno shriveled up and died as quickly as he did. He deserved far worse. His entire legacy is a lie.

Unforgivable

That being said, I still maintain the NCAA has no business enforcing program sanctions over this. It's a purely legal matter. The NCAA exists to legislate conduct related to competitive fairness, not felony activity unrelated to sports.

More legality vs morality. Likely encroaching on legality at this point as multiple accounts of him knowing have come out.

Sandusky was a revered member of the program for decades. Do you think if he sucked as a coach he would have still been protected and allowed access to the program after he retired? His crimes might not be sports related, but the enabling of his crimes most certainly was.

He was being protected back when he was a lowly position coach, so clearly the answer is yes. This wasn't about protecting a legacy, there was no legacy to protect in the early 70s.
