It seems there’s also a broader concern with the way players are behaving on and off the field — with some government officials evidently conveying issues to the league.

Boo-hoo...can’t wait for this and other sports to bankrupt themselves over politics. Sports are forever changed and ruined.

honestly is this a perfect storm for the owners-

players agree to prorated (paid by the game), agree to 60 games. Marlin player went to a club, got team(s) affected.
MLB cancels dozens of games,
if they go with a shortened regular season (36 games) ~22% of pay?

owners still get the expanded playoffs.

Freaks the frick out the first time teams have positive tests

This - you knew the usual suspects would freak. I was quite frankly surprised baseball did not succumb to the predictable panic and shut down the day the Marlins outbreak happened.

I thought good for them for not. We need to learn to live with this and function with this...it ain't going away. Learn to manage the risks, adjust to the inevitable positive cases, learn from mistakes and soldier on.

But the narrative has been panic at any positive case no matter the context and demonize any attempt to work through this and shut everything down. And that narrative began so early it is very difficult to overcome it.

Trout went home to see the birth of his child, so he is gone for at least a month now.

Manfred has been worse than Betteman.

Tells me a lot about Bill De Wallet, this was his hand picked guy to take over. He has the juice, and got his guy to Commish spot.

And the guy is 100% nothing like what you would expect. I expected more back to roots stuff, not the gimmicky shite he's doing. frick that guy and Dewallet
