It should be, but there's precedent that it's not. 2000, Miami and Fla State. Both finished with 1 loss, Miami beat Fla State head-to-head.
That was the BCS a totally different system that used a variety of overly complicated formulas and computer rankings. It was not even in effect the last half of the BCS so no, not precedent.
As a side note, that was the perfect year for a 4 team playoff. Would have been zero controversy. Top 4 all conference winners teams ranked 5 and 6 lost to the teams above.

If head to head doesn't matter, then why do we even play the games? Let's just have computers and spreadsheets predetermine champions.
If Georgia loses, they don't deserve to get in.
If Georgia loses, they don't deserve to get in.

Well, duh- precedent is set by something occurring in the past.
I figured most people would grasp that.
You know the CFP committee wasn't a thing in 2000, right?

Florida State plays Oklahoma for National Title, because it had "the better loss". Miami plays in Sugar Bowl instead.
Oregon State and Washington both finished with 1 loss that season as well. Washington beat both Miami and Oregon State. Washington got screwed that year, not Miami.

At the end of the season, there’s a clear difference in strength between a team that’s in the top 15 vs a team that’s sitting at 24/25.
There is a difference bt top 5, top 15, and top 25.
If bama wins the SEC, that means Texas would have the best win bc they beat a top 5 team that is the SEC Champion. But you did cherry pick top 15

A game that happened 10 weeks ago should carry little weight.
Bama would steam roll Texas if they played this week.

I also think they changed the formula the next season to account for this scenario, something like a bonus point if you beat a team within so many spots ahead of you.

If you’re going to dismiss the results because they were played 10 weeks ago, then don’t be surprised when we start seeing fewer and fewer out of conference games. What’s the point in risking a loss if your wins can easily be dismissed because they were 10 weeks ago.

No it isn't, they even said that before they ever started the playoff rankings back in 2014, you do not listen well do you?
Posted on 11/30/23 at 10:59 pm to Jon Ham
Why are we even talking about if Bama wins? This Bama team is not good.

And teams sitting at home on the final regular season weekend (like Ohio State) don't deserve to get in. But that hasn't stopped CFB from being ridiculous before... See 2011 Alabama.

Georgia in regardless
Florida State, Washington, Texas, and TCUN all win this week. Who does Georgia replace?

That was the 3rd year of the BCS.
It's also worth noting that Miami was #2 in both the AP and Coaches.

They would need help (like 2 years ago when the ACC, B12, and P12 champs all had multiple losses).

First tie breaker is H2H.
It's weird that Texas was ranked ahead of Oklahoma when they had the same record after Oklahoma beat them if that's the case

Then why bother to play the games if we already know what’s going to happen so much that we disregard what actually happened

This Bama team is not good.
This bama team might not be vintage juggernaut prime Saban bama, but get all the way the frick out with "not good"
You don't go undefeated in the SEC if you aren't good. Not good teams don't have 5 or 6 future first round draft picks in their starting 22

The resumes aren’t equal. Bama’s is clearly stronger. There is no “tie.”
Texas would beat this Bama team 8/10 times.
