the ref tells the players (Captain on Defense) in person first, the announcement over the loudspeakers is just for fans and media/stat crew the players don’t listen to the PA

So no one made a million threads on this when the patriots did this to the ravens. The NFL made a rule change because Brady, now everyone is pissed because of the Lions. You're all 8 years too late. The defense used to be required to figure out who was eligible. That's what the rule should be.

Yeah that’s what Bruschi was saying yesterday. He said it used to be you just discreetly got the officials attention and gave him the signal. It wasn’t accounted and you didn’t have to go to the official and report.
Now, you have to go up to the official and report, which is why it’s ridiculous that #70 was announced when he never even got near the official.

So what? Them getting cute doesn’t excuse the official fricking up who reported to him.
The official didn’t even mix up the 2 guys in his face. He mixed up one of them and someone who never even got near him.

70 didn’t have to verbally report, he ran towards the ref and made the arm motion as if he were reporting.
