so your argument that peyton isn't the best b/c he only has one ring and not enough playoff experience......all while you argue barry is better, even though he has zero rings and much less playoff experience??

sorry Speedy, i should have said modern era. It's a passing league now. Montana and other greats may have done as good a job as Peyton if they were playing now, but the league was different when they played. Peyton is the most complete QB to ever play the game, and I would take him over any QB in history if I was starting a franchise tomorrow and everyone who ever played the game was available at the same age

In 1943, Sammy Baugh led the league not only in passing, but also punting (45.9-yard average). He also played defensive back and led the league in interceptions (11).

Unitas and Bradshaw did. Unitas was basically Peyton Manning before there was a Peyton Manning except he was a lot tougher and won two more rings.

Peyton threw for more yards than Unitas did in 18 seasons in his first 10 seasons. Peyton has thrown 379 TDs and 183 interceptions and completed 64.9% of his passes compared to Unitas's 290 TDs and 253 INTs with a 54.6% completion percentage. Unitas was great for his time and ahead of his time but he was NOT better than peyton manning

Brady has gotten WAY deeper in the playoffs numerous times therefore he has played against much tougher competition. He IS the better postseason QB!!!

It's times like this when you have to put stats n their historical context.
In the late '50s and '60s, when Unitas played most of his career, the rules had not yet been changed to help the offense. You still had the bump and run, and perhaps even more important offensive lineman had to block with their forearms. The push block -- aka legalized holding -- was first allowed in the '70s.
The passing game pre-West Coast was also much more vertical, so QBs had longer completions but also more incompletions.
Even with all that, Unitas is still #11 in all-time passing yards and #7 in career TDs. Most impressive of all, his record of 47-straight games with a touchdown pass -- the football equivalent of Joe DiMaggio's 56-game baseball hitting streak -- still stands, even with today's pro-passing rules.
It's not necessary to knock Unitas to defend Manning.

Brady also didnt have to call his own plays because he played for an offensive genius when he was winning super bowls.

I dont think Peyton has missed a NFL game ever yet. I think he's second to only Favre for consecutive games started.

Manning had a terrible playoff the year they won the Super Bowl, he was down right bad.
Peyton maybe the GOAT because of how long he has been so good, but don't act like no one has ever played at his level.
He was not the best QB in the NFL last year, and hasn't been for arguably a good portion of his career.

What the frick are you talking about? Manning has been the best QB in the NFL for just about every season the past 10 years or so. Brees or Brady have made it a debate once or twice, but as evidenced this year with Brees and last with Brady they tend to fade while Manning consistently dominates.

I guess this is what kills me in the end. We can't rank a QB by Super Bowl wins, but we have no problem comparing stats directly to one another even if one team is a ground it out ball control (Patriots when they were winning their Superbowl) and another is a high flying offense. Why does Brady get the shaft because early in his career his WRs were not that talented?

The year the Colts won the super bowl was Mannings worst year in the playoffs... They won in spite of his 7 int's.
In 2003 he had a passer rating of like 106... one of his highest postseason ratings, but in the AFC championship he threw 4 ints.
When he starts winning in the playoffs he will be the best ever.
