What a coward. Oklahoma has the two most important games left on its schedule these next 3 weeks that will determine the fate of the Conference with West Virginia and OK State. If OU doesn't make the playoff, they will surely play in a marquee bowl like the Cotton, Fiesta, or Sugar. With everything on the line, he's calling it quits.

This is the kind of intangible that makes pro scouts drop talented players from their draft boards.

He probably lost millions.

If he can't help his draft stock by playing, then maybe he shouldn't play. If he gets injured again, he is going to fall in the draft.

Didn't he have a concussion not too long ago?

he's had several. he's also been medically cleared for several weeks and has made the personal decision to sit out because he doesn't feel right.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often, especially with teams that aren't in contention. I do think it looks bad to quit on your team but if you have the talent, the NFL will still take you.

I hope his stock drops dramatically.

People forget that NFL teams still interview coaches about players and that has a big impact. And coaches are known to give very select comment on players (i.e. No one will believe a coach who says all his players are the greatest thing ever every year.)

I'm sure stoops will not speak highly of him for this

Translation - he just took some $ from an agent.

Sounds like his concussion issues may prevent him from ever playing in the NFL.
I don't blame him for walking away from further injury issues while in college.
I would be getting a medical opinion about my future.

The hell he did, he's going to go to a clinic, with people affiliated and work with NFL teams, and get the best training and conditioning you can buy. All on Agents dime.

Teams all ready know what he can do, now his legs take less chop blocks and injury is not a fear.

He will not slide, unless he shows up fat or out of shape. He works with trainer, he will stay where he is ranked to go.

From the Yahoo article on the story: LINK

quote:

The Sooners also lost fellow defensive end Matt Dimon, who Stoops said also quit the team. Dimon was hurt during the first half of Oklahoma’s 45-24 loss to Ohio State on Sept. 17 and hadn’t played since. Bob Stoops said Dimon’s decision to leave was the result of multiple issues, including his injury.

With both of them leaving, I have to wonder how much pressure the coaching/training staff was putting on them to play before they felt ready.

poor kid, they don't really play defense in the Big 12 so he probably never felt like he was sharpening his skills.

It happens tacitly a lot. Players check out from the team, concentrate on not getting hurt and then regroup for combines.

LF7 seems to be doing this...

Winner of a cripple fight.

He is shitting on his teammates, but lets be honest half of the college players wouldn't make it into college without being a good football player. The schools make money off of them and he is looking out for his future.

you can do this, or be Leonard Fournette, who's going to need surgery after the season is over, and will slip in the draft.
