And this. I honestly wonder if the student couldn't file a lawsuit based on a University employee using over the top physicality that's not permitted in his line of work.

He could and I wouldn't be surprised if he did but it won't go anywhere.
Coach will just say that he didn't know if the kid was armed and wasn't taking any chances. And, for legal issues, it may very well be in his job description to act as some sort of "last resort" on field security. That wouldn't be a shock, either.

Exactly. You treat everybody that runs on the field as a serious threat to those playing/coaching as well as the people in the stands. 99% of the time is just for fun, but the moment you assume there isn't a threat is the time a player gets seriously injured like Seles or the baseball coach that got attacked by those pieces of shite in Chicago. On a side note, they should have let the players kick the shite out of those guys a little more after they ran onto the field.
