In this instance, nothing. But what if he had a knife and stabbed a player, coach, official, etc.? (that has happened). What if he attacked an unsuspecting person on the field? (that has happened)

What if games are fun. What if he was manic-depressive and jumped the fence because his euphoria made it seem like a good idea? What if he had a bazooka with him? What if he was going to give his old high school friend a hug? What-ifs are really fun.

Nothing of the sort actually happened with this kid. He was removed from the field after an inappropriate body slam. I would sue the coach for assault if I were him.

Because so many people would jump a fence if it didn't get their scholly revoked

What if he didn't? In fact he didn't. As I said, prevaricated rationalization.

Funny, I didn't realize that was #1; I was always taught the Golden Rule was in first place. As I said, bravado.

Then someone in security would have some real explaining to do.

You probably haven't seen the photo but he had an empty booze bladder around his waist. The only thing he was is falling down drunk.

His caddy friends feel bad they didn't stop him, I'm sure.

Well then, that makes the tackle completely appropriate.

I bet revoking his scholly is going to keep the hordes of drunk fence jumpers at bay. Good thing we have deterrents

This was 3rd party scholarship from the Evans Scholars. They take things very seriously, but they give you a true full ride. They just built a new house in the ohio state campus, room and board are included in the scholarship.

Meh. Seems like a reasonable punishment. Kicking him out of school would be a little much but this is desreved. It's basically a ~15k fine?

Perhaps you can't read all that well.

OHIO STATE DID NOT REVOKE ANYTHING.

He had a third party scholarship and it appears that the grantor of the scholarship doesn't believe he properly represents what they believe in. So they, the third party, decided to revoke the scholarship which is well within their bounds.

A high school classmate of mine had a full academic ride. He was arrested for DIP and his scholarship was also revoked.

Be responsible for your own actions and you won't have to worry about losing things like scholarships.

Can you IMAGINE the conversation he had to have with his parents?

Yikes, I'm getting second hand embarrassment just thinking about it.

Look, revoking scholarships, suspending, expelling - that's all administrative stuff and I can't argue with a bunch of by-laws that I don't know.

I'm certain he can be charged because anyone can be charged with practically anything - that's not news.

I do think he was assaulted by the coach - plain and simple.

It's also true that I think his treatment in its totality is out of proportion to his indiscretion.

Funny thing is, if the coach doesn't go Hulk Hogan on him, the video doesn't go viral and no one cares. He may not have lost the scholarship, either.

Well shite, since it's obviously not going to stop the behavior to any degree, let's just allow anyone who wants to run on the playing field do so at their own leisure with zero repercussions. You can't quantify the deterrent effect revoking a scholarship might have on future incident, because there is no way to know how many people don't do something out fear of consequences.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you are upset about in this thread.

The slam or the loss of scholarship?

It is completely his fault that his name will be googled by future employers. The slam was rough, but it has happened in the past where fans loose on the competition field have harmed players. His scholarship was pulled by the Evans people because it reflected poorly on their foundation who awars scholarships based on "academic success, financial need, and outstanding character"

By the way, this isn't the first time he has done this. He also ran onto the court at Madison Square Garden wearing an Ohio State jersey and proudly displayed a photo of himself on his instagram getting escorted off of the court by MSG security.

Maybe now the habitual offender will have learned his lesson
