U dumb. We all play 12. Bama plays in the SECCG if they win the west giving them 13.

The title game is generally going to be one of the top 3 teams on a schedule for a given year, with the possibility of a rematch. It helped Ohio State, but I'd imagine that is somewhat of an anomaly for P5 schools.

If either LSU or Bama runs the table for the remainder of the year, it does not benefit either of them to play Florida in Atlanta, certainly not LSU.

I know 2012 ND was in the BCS era, but if you take that exact team and season, I seriously doubt you want to have a rematch against Stanford, Sparty, OU, etc.

Lol.

ND doesn't play FCS schools so according to your logic, they should play one (like Bama) to get that 13th game. My lord man

ok you win. they cant just randomly schedule a 13th game. There are unique set of circumstances that allows one to schedule one and it is fairly rare.

Either way ND will probably be part of a conference before all is said and done if they truly go to a super NCAA league made up of P5 schools and have their own title game.

Maybe so. Many ND fans today want to join the ACC. Partly because the playoff is more accessible.

ND would gladly take a Clemson schedule, for example

this would be the natural move since they already play a modified schedule. if they get left out of several playoffs by not being in a conference, then it may speed this up.

ND is not a true Indy in my book with their ACC deal.

i think I was responding to several things. It helps ND from the standpoint that they dont have to play a 13th game but no one is going to leave out a ND team if they are in the top 4 of all major polls. Which I think devalues the process since they did not have to play a title game against a high ranked opponent.

Do any of us give a damn against the SEC West playing a final game against the shittastic SEC East? The SEC loves this nonsense about an additional game against "a high ranked opponent" when in reality that hasn't been the case dice Meyer left.

ND's schedule is always one of the toughest if not the toughest in the nation. Bama logic in this thread is awesome.

a conference title game favors ND and now you've gone full circle to say the committee favors teams in conferences over those not in them?

Good lord stfu. Do you think ND will be held out of the playoff for eternity because they don't play a CG? ND is and will be an exception. That's what people mean when they say it's an advantage for ND.

It would probably be easier for them to make the playoffs in a conference. They play a tough schedule every single year and regularly schedule p5 schools outside of their usual rivals

Depends on what conference. But their schedule is awesome and I'd never complain about it as long as it gets judged fairly.

Its not an unfair advantage but the whole "you should have to win your conference" to play for a national championship argument is made all the time without ever mentioning what would be done with Norte dame

They'd won a division basically in the ACC and be best independent so technically you could say they won.

Fun scenario:

1. Notre Dame gets to cherry-pick an ACC schedule, finishes 11-1.

2. Clemson doesn't Clemson in the regular season and finishes 12-0.

3. Clemson Clemsons in the ACCCG. Loses to Duke.

4. The committee picks 11-1 Notre Dame over a 12-1 Clemson that beat Notre Dame.

Would that be right?

Of course this is a ridiculous scenario because it assumes Clemson runs the table, including a road win at Florida State.

Okay, and look at this year. Imagine ND was a full member of the ACC in the opposite division of Clemson and got a rematch with the Tigers. If the Irish won, they'd be basically guaranteed to get in the playoff. But the Irish need a decent amount of help as it stands now. The SEC Champ is in. The Big Ten champ is probably in. Clemson/the ACC Champ is probably in. So ND needs to hope Utah loses twice (because one-loss Utah, with a CCG, is probably in) AND no Big 12 team goes undefeated (and the Irish get the benefit of the doubt from the committee over the Big 12 team, which isn't a guarantee). If ND was in the ACC and won a Clemson rematch, ND would probably be in better position than any one-loss team besides the SEC Champ.

As many in this thread are saying, a CCG can be hurtful or helpful. It might've hurt ND to have one in 2012. It'd almost certainly help ND this year. It's like that for all teams. It HELPED Ohio State last year. It HURT Ohio State the year before. Not having one hurt the Big 12 last year. Maybe if Baylor or TCU goes undefeated this year, it will help this year by not providing an opportunity to get a loss. It's not simple and it varies on the scenarios.

Point 1 is incorrect the ACC sets ND schedule for their teams.

Point 4 it would be Clemson most likely, depending when and where the defeat happened.

Not at all. Any school may be independent if they wish.
