fine with me...

if we're gonna reward teams for winning conferences, they have to win their conferences... you figure Notre Dame going 11-1 would win their hypothetical "conference"...

Not enough info. What are the records of all Notre Dame's and Clemson's opponents, and what are the records of their opponents' opponents?

I don't really count those because both times the sec championship game winner went to the bcs national championship game.

Without playing FSU, Duke, North Carolina or Louisville. Pitt is an unknown right now because they don't have a signature win or even a quality win. Outside of the Clemson loss and the upcoming Pitt game, their ACC wins are Virginia (2-4/1-1) and Georgia Tech (2-5/0-4), and upcoming games are BC (3-5/0-5) and Wake Forest (3-5/1-4/beat BC).

Notre Dame played a "modified" ACC schedule against the bottomfeeders and Clemson, and they lost to Clemson. I mean, the average illiterate CFB fan will say they beat Texas and USC, but that is no great feat at all this year.

There's a chance that Notre Dame's best win this year could be Temple. Let that sink in for a minute.

They should be forced to join a conference

Point 1 is incorrect the ACC sets ND schedule for their teams.

I'm fully aware of that. My point is that they're playing a 6-game ACC schedule while everyone else is playing 8. The odds are in your favor that you can avoid good teams when you play two fewer games than everyone else. One of two extra games is bound to be against a good team.

Temple team that's unbeaten and ranked top 25?

Texas team that beat OU?

Navy team that may end up CCG?

But then what will be the excuse when they beat Stanford?

Anyone else think it's an unfair advantage that they get to skip playing a confrence championship game?

They aren't the only team for whom this is true. Every conference is different. Every team's schedule within the same conference is different. Pretending Notre Dame is more special than they are just because they don't potentially play in a CCG is silly.

Their only big advantage is being a prestigious name program. They have that over the teams not named USC, tOSU, Florida, Bama, OU, and Texas. That's more of a factor that will influence the committee than whether or not they play a CCG or whether or not they typically play a good number of quality opponents in the year (USC, Mich St, etc)

As soon as you clowns stop scheduling 1-AA teams and calling that a 13th game, then we'll have this conversation. Until otherwise, STFU.

I know 2012 ND was in the BCS era, but if you take that exact team and season, I seriously doubt you want to have a rematch against Stanford, Sparty, OU, etc.

What the frick are you talking about? We clobbered both MSU and OU on the road that year. We would have had no problem playing them again. Stanford was good (and the Rose Bowl champion), and it probably would have been about like it was the first time - a very even game.

Nd doesn't play cupcakes but they play navy every year? Of did they replace them with a real juggernaut like wake?

They replaced a lot of mid-tier big 10 teams with mid-tier Acc teams - what a daunting fricking schedule. Maybe they will play 3 ranked teams! Give them a bye to the playoff!

Because why should they not be in a conference? Oh yeah, because they want their exclusive network, and they want their attention as a "national brand". If they were in a conference they'd be exposed as a meh program.

So why do you not bitch about Army or Navy with their exclusive network?

What about BYU? They have their own network.

Conferences are for a bunch of communists and lessers.

Seriously, if you run the math, we lose money not being in a conference (I want to say it's around $3 - 5 million per). Independence is that valuable to us.

The ACC is weaker than the SEC, Big Ten, and Pac Ten so ND playing five ACC games doesn't help them. I think that the committee will choose four teams from conferences unless ND goes 12-0. Being independent hurts ND in my opinion in in the long term. Let's say LSU goes 12-1 and wins the SEC CG, UCLA wins the Pac 12 at 12-1, Michigan State wins the Big ten at 12-1, and Florida State wins the ACC at 12-1 and the Big 12 winner Baylor goes 12-1 and ND goes 12-0.

I say LSU, MSU, FSU, and UCLA make the playoffs at 12-1 having won their conference championship games. You will see this scenario more often than not.

NBC is a network that you can watch on basic cable. You don't even need basic cable if you have an antenna.

The other networks you bring up are not even available to a majority of cable subscribers. And if it is, it's on channel 275 and you have to buy Sports Tier 7 to get it.
