It's more of a formality to name Newman. They're of course on record not opposing the TRO, which helps Randy.

From the information I've been told, I really don't think it's in Randy or Newman's best interest to pursue this. Should really just take the year penalty and move on.

Likely he wasn't involved with any of this until the levee broke.

nother thing Country Day doesn't do is tell kids that have been there for years to leave because their spot has been filled. Randy did that to multiple guys this year, including a 6'9 surefire D1 prospect who's now at a prep school. This is also a kid with deep New Orleans ties and family money. Just stupid on Randy's part.

After reading the suit (skimmed, forgive me if there are mistakes), Randy is suing the LHSAA and Newman. His basic allegations are that the principal was never afforded a hearing (required by LHSAA bylaws) and the LHSAA never presented the proof of cheating. Further, he's arguing that the LHSAA suspending him constitutes a state action which gives rise to a due process claim. It could, it could not. I wouldn't bank on a CDC judge to give the proper ruling.

I don’t think Randy is really worried as he’s in the Bahamas. I guess he’ll worry about it once he gets back

Sounds good, Randy.

You seemed mighty worried in your petition when you alleged, multiple times, that this would damage your career to the point of no return.

Also, you're in the Bahamas because you're entire district schedule now no longer exists because you're ineligible for the playoffs. I guess that freed up some time for you.

Newman is not they did not want him to sue.

They have said publicly that they support him and his lawsuit.

Question to lawyers or anyone with experience with lhsaa. What does Newman gain by backing Randy? Everything points to horrible egregious actions. Why not cut their loses, fire him, and protect their own reputation? If everything is true and now comes out, don’t AD and principal open themselves up to being fired if they’re supporting him?

How could he not have been involved? Unless he is completely out of touch with his coaches there is no way he didn’t know that shady things were happening. I think it was common knowledge in the school, so no way administrators haven’t at least heard stuff the past several years.

Heard that the AD was demanding money, meals, and hotel rooms for some of the big time events they have been to during the year.

The AD was demanding money from who? School or donors?

See your point, but flip side, why wouldn’t the kid expect that to happen? He came to Newman as a freshman after being recruited through Randy’s AAU team. He came from Slidell but conveniently didn’t sit out a year bc he magically had a New Orleans address. As a freshman he pushed out kids who had been there through middle school so why would he be surprised when Randy found someone better and pushed him aside. What did he expect?

Because there’s no possible reason anyone would leave from New Orleans to Slidell

Maybe they just kept him out of the loop - money and power can do that. See some other schools that did similar things.

I get that point, but people transfer into schools as freshman much more frequently. I'm not saying it completely absolves him (because he was still recruited), but it's more understandable (and common) than transferring in from Texas as a Junior.

Not saying they can’t keep him out of the loop intentionally but from what I know parents and kids have been discussing a lot of this for 4 yrs. The AD is an alum and has kids at the school. There’s just no way he hasn’t heard what’s been going on for years even if he wasn’t initially complicit. For him to be ok with it makes him just as liable. Guess those state championships were hard to turn away from.

But what’s the AD point of still staying silent? Doesn’t that put his job at risk? Why not fire Randy and try to walk away with some dignity?

I think it’s more important to Randy than the school, but very important to the school as well. They hadn’t won basketball in 30 years-getting back to being a powerhouse was a huge deal. Alum donors care about sports that draw crowds like football and basketball, not swimming.
