This is a direct result of the age we're in, access to information, the whole metric thing nowadays.

So it'll go back to how it was for 100 years before that.
Why would we want to do that just for the sake of doing it the way it's always been done?

It's honestly no different than saying pitchers can't throw nothing but offspeed stuff to guys who can't hit offspeed stuff, for the sake of keeping the game exciting.

for like 60 years football existed without zone D

until about 5 years ago, you didn't see teams lining up in the shotgun with 4-5 wide almost every play all game

10 years ago the NFL started shifting from a 3-4 to a 4-3, and now they're switching back

Sports change rules all the time as a result of what happens on the field/court. I really don't think this would be a big deal at all.

the issue is that baseball is finally beginning to incorporate strategy and schemes into the game and that should be encouraged

i have no icea how you, or others, can see innovation as boring

Natural position = The way it's always been done

The way it's always been done isn't always the most efficient way.

NL baseball is not more exciting. After the Astros switched over, I have grown to love the DH. It's nice not having a borderline automatic out at the bottom of the order

Bingo. And, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe most Astros fans feel this way.

Once again, it took a half a season for fans to get used to a rule change that y'all were all strongly opposed to for years before.

So we have to come up with anrule because a batter can't do anything but pull the ball. How about we take care of the batters who can't hit curve balls and outlaw breaking balls altogether.

Do you think the casual fan digs innovative shifts?

Pitch clocks, eliminating shifts, etc.

All this is being done to make the game more entertaining for the casual fan.

Once again, all the baseball lovers are going to watch no matter what.

I'm an Astros fan but hate the DH fyi and still loathe the notion of being in the AL.

Then in addition to being dead serious, you're also dead stupid.

You have yet to explain why some "innovative" shifts are ok but not others.

There are no "positions" on a baseball field.

Telling certain teams they can no longer use a strategy they have implemented is bs.

Sort of like illegal defense in the NBA? Or adding the restricted area under the rim? What about enforcing illegal contact more in the NFL?

Yes, the last one was already a rule that they just started to enforce more. However, there's examples of sports across the board trying to inject more offense.

I just really don't have a problem with it. Again, no one will complain within 2 years if this rule is changed.

I'm dead stupid for having an opinion? One that it seems the guys in charge of baseball might agree with?

Calling people stupid is fun, I guess. I respect your opinion. Sorry you can't do the same.

Keep infielders in the infield and outfielders in the outfield. That is my stipulation.

The difference in offense if we banned it wouldn't be enough for the casual fan to notice, fwiw.

Would you have a problem with eliminating guarding the lines and playing for the double play?

If so, why? If we eliminated them, the casual fan would see an increase in offense, no?
