Perfect weather here, game was played in the 70's

And it was in jacksonville in december.

Jacksonville: a dump that people don't want to travel to.

December: It may have been the 70s that day, but I'm sure when people were deciding on buying tickets and traveling the fact it was outdoors was a factor. Also who was the opponent that year, boston college?

I dont want to be rude, but Atlanta is not a travel destination at all.

So now you're comparing the appeal of traveling to jacksonville vs atlanta?

Then you simply aren't worth even debating with anymore.

People don't make plans to have their summer vacations in Atlanta, obviously. But for a football championship game, they absolutely do. Have you ever noticed that pretty much every CFB event at the dome is a sellout? Whether it's the peach bowl, CFA kickoff, SECCG, whatever. The dome is appealing whether you like it or not. It's also appealing for people taking the family, since there is the CFB HOF, GA aquarium, world of coke, fox theater, and tons of other stuff for the whole family to do. Charlotte and Jacksonville don't offer anything remotely similar.

well you're kind of an idiot if you think that. FSU/GT last year, outside in december, sold 64K tickets. You don't think they would have filled up the dome?

Last year was the first time in a long time that you actually had 2 decent teams playing each other in the ACCCG. They might have filled up the dome because GT is based in ATL and their fans could have bought them for less than $20 on the day of.

quote:

Obviously, your dukes and WF's aren't going to be a draw, and never will be. But if you don't think they could sell 75+ seats at an indoor dome in atlanta for some combo of FSU/gt/clemson/VT/miami you're insane.

Miami- doesn't even travel 20 miles to its HOME STADIUM
FSU fans will save their money for a playoff trip
GT- would get a bump because they are based in ATL
Clemson would have less of a turnout than from CLT
VaTech ppl are used to early dec weather so that is not a factor for them and travel conditions are the same for CLT or ATL.

The fact that the SECCG is in ATL has no bearing on its attendance. Its the SECCG, we (SEC fans) live and breath football and have made the SECCG a must attend event. The ACC not so much.

Also from personal experience CLT is a better city to visit than ATL.

If you put those same events in other cities they would sell out too. Welcome to my whole point. Do you honestly think it is Atlanta that makes those games "big"?

And that is not even true. How many people all over the south do you think pour in for six flags and whitewater every year. It may not compare to Orlando, but its a lot

A lot of major cities have amusement parks. It doesn't make it a vacation city just because there is an amusement park. I wouldn't call Cincinnati a vacation city at all, and it has the largest amusement park in the country.

You are making this sound so simple. The ACC championship game usually has absolutely atrocious attendance. But you think moving it to Atlanta will make it a sell out spectacle. I think that is insane

FSU vs GT, where paid attenedance was 64k

What do you think was actual? 45k

This was 2012 when Georgia Tech snuck in with a record of 6-6 because everyone else in the division was rule ineligible.

That sure looks like Jameis as QB......... But maybe it is EJ?

ETA: Was 2012. Attendance was still listed at 64k

Clearly we know it was nowhere close to that

Funny coming from someone as tightly wound as you.

In that case, in the full context of this thread, your comparison is thus irrelevant.

You don't strike me as one that can follow context though.

No it doesn't. Kings Island is not bigger than Cedar Point.

No one can say that about Atl. Between theme parks, the Ga aquarium, all the concert venues, major league ballparks and arena, endless 5 star dining, etc. And now a billion dollar dome

Of all the things you listed, the new Stadium is the only thing Atlanta has over NOLA that is on note.

ETA: I cna't believe this thread is still going, and I can't believe I contributed to it.

Not sure why this argument even is still going.
The SEC could move it to New Orleans, but they haven't and won't because they know Atlanta is the better location.
