+1 Chad. I said it a bunch last night and this morning: It's really not that hard to understand. I don't know why people are having so much trouble with it.

Good point on Rivers and Rodgers. Also, Carson Palmer was the #1 overall pick and he didn't play his first yr. I don't understand why some people feel if a player won't play immediately then it was a wasted pick.

chad, what role again do you think he's gonna play???

hback??

3 questions:

name the last hback drafted in the first round

name the last Hback drafted in the first round that played QB in college

name the best HBack in the NFL right now. If they made everyone in the NFL a free agent, where would he be picked? Or in other words, how valuable do you think he is to a team???

you can answer, but its certainly not worth a 1st round grade

It's not right or wrong?? WTF?

quote:

ALso Aaron Rodgers, took until his 4th year to get on the field, he worked out fine. And both Rodgers and Rivers had much less of an impact for the team than what tebow will give to denver while he's not the starter.

They were both also pure passing QBs. Much better than Tebow ever was at throwing the ball.

and both came in as 2nd string, not behind a former 1st round QB that the team just TRADED to get who is only 24 or so.

in the Bronco's situation, Brady Quinn is their Rivers or Rodgers

hahahahahahahaahah

you dont take a player in the first round to be a team chaplain or a cheerleader or an hback for that matter

Denver used its 25th pick and gave up it 2nd, 3rd, 5 or so spots in the 4th round. That is my biggest issue with this pick.

With that being said I do not see how it relates to Philip Rivers situation considering they got an additional 1st round pick for trading with New York. Both Aaron Rodgers and Carson Palmer were graded out as much better QB's than Tebow, both were viewd as being franchise type QB's. It is not a matter of not playing right away, it is a matter of value.

Tebow is not going to come in to the NFL and be a great special teams player and on the side run over NFL calibur Defensive Lineman, all while developing into a great QB.

I've already expressed this over and over and over again. They are going to try to groom him to be their franchise qb just like rodgers and river or whomever else. In the meantime, he'll bring a pivotal role to their offense. Not difficult.

Steve Young wasn't a pure passing qb, really is not relevant what they are pure at or not. They are all quarterbacks and quarterbacks that are/were groomed to be the franchise qb at some point in time.

Brady Quinn was brought in for competition at the spot. I don't think ya coach is holding his breath on him being the franchise qb for the next 8 yrs.

Obviously you do. Denver wasn't the only team after him. And he'll be groomed to be the franchise qb which you are overlooking.

It's retarded you're okay with Rivers on the bench for 2 years but Tebow will be contributing these 2 years and is still going to be groomed like Rivers to be the franchise qb down the road. Oh, but Rivers is a pure passer and Tebow brings some different aspects to the position than normal so its not okay. That's retarded.

so they are going to groom him to be a franchise QB all the while stunting his growth by working him into the offense as a FB and pass catcher???

makes sense

Steve Young was a much better passer coming out than anyone remembers. Better than Tebow. Tebow will never be as good as Steve Young. Never.

but he'll hold his breath that Tebow is that guy?? lol

No, he'll be playing quarterback and running the ball in a wildcat type offense. He's not lining up at h back or fullback but can bring the running skill sets as a situational quarterback.

Thanks to Bill Walsh' offense.

Organization obviously wants to devote the time and tools to try to make it work. Good for them. It's better than just throwing tebow in the wolves with a Raider like organization.

you don't pick FBs in the first round either, especially when they've never played position

it's not like this happens all the time and we have history to see how it might turn out.

my opinion is that he cant play QB in the NFL

people keep trying to vilify it by saying he can play FB or HBack or TE or whatever. Yea, maybe he can. But you still don't pick that position in the 1st round, esp if he has never played it.

the Bronco's obviously think he can play QB in the league. Thats the only way you can explain trading up to pick this dude. I like him as a person, but it's a stupid pick considering their needs

Like college, he'll play a position you've never seen before, a passing fullback. He'll give them play action with an empty backfield. Denver will exploit this ad nausium. With Mareno in the backfield they could have a very good running game.

that's a good point, last year's draft was questionable as well.

Why is everyone so stuck on the idea that you have to be a pocket passer to succeed in the NFL? Can someone tell me why Tebow can't bring his highly unique skill set into the NFL and pick up tough first downs between the tackles instead of throwing for it other than the cliche "he can't run like that in the NFL"?

How the frick do you know? Nobody thought he could survive four years of college either. This cat is a different breed.

He will be a complete bust if McDaniels tries to make him a pocket passer like Fisher did to Young. But if he allows him to be Tim Tebow, who knows?
