Apparently there were 4 groups and the one group couldnt get their shite together. So, the repeated the regimen 4 days in a row. It was dumb and will get corrected.

I fiigured I would bring some substance to this thread rather than everyone complaining about crossfit

quote:

Rhabdomyolysis is the breakdown of damaged skeletal muscle. Muscle breakdown causes the release of myoglobin into the bloodstream. Myoglobin is the protein that stores oxygen in your muscles. If you have too much myoglobin in your blood, it can cause kidney damage.

quote:

Symptoms. The initial symptoms of rhabdomyolysis can be subtle. They’re not specific and may mimic other conditions. The symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include:

muscle weakness
low urine output
fatigue
soreness
bruising
dark, tea-colored urine
infrequent urination
a fever
a sense of malaise, or feeling sick

quote:

Causes. Rhabdomyolysis is always triggered by muscle injury. This injury can have physical, chemical or genetic causes. Anything that damages the muscles can cause this condition. Possible causes include the following:

Trauma,
heat,
and exertion

quote:

Outlook. Your long-term outlook depends on the degree of kidney damage. If rhabdomyolysis is caught early, you may be able to avoid major complications and return to normal health in a few weeks. Even then, however, you may still have some lingering weakness and pain in your muscles. If major kidney damage occurs, your kidneys may be permanently damaged. Several of the symptoms and complications of rhabdomyolysis are serious and may result in death if you don’t get treatment for them.

quote:

Preventing rhabdomyolysis. You can prevent rhabdomyolysis by drinking plenty of fluids before and after strenuous exercise. This will dilute your urine and help your kidneys eliminate any myoglobin that your muscles may have released during exercise. If you have an existing degenerative muscle condition or have sustained damage to your muscle after a recent trauma, you can prevent rhabdomyolysis by staying well-hydrated at all times. Carry a full refillable water bottle with you at all times so you can make sure you’ll have access to something to drink. Drink whenever you begin to feel thirsty, and don’t wait until your thirst increases.

This might just show how the previous staff didn't to a good job with conditioning.

It's a spectrum dude and goes from mild to severe. In most cases, it's 100% reversible.

The news not being reported is that the S&C coach identified the symptoms and encouraged treatment. It sounds more and more like it was a case of the staff saying "you need to work harder!" and a few guys trying to prove themselves too much.

They suspended the strength coach for a month without pay.

We have so much science now. Overworking people seems dumb in this day and age. Even Bear Bryant admitted in the lack of science days (no water was still a common practice) that he messed up badly and felt guilty about it)...There's ways we know to condition an athlete, you don't have to send them to the hospital.

More evidence of the continued pussyfication of America. The way this country is giving up its manhood is unbelievable. Reminds me of the argument I got into with an Air Force weenie during the Abu Grab controversy about what was torture. It went like this with me asking:
Do you think sleep deprivation is torture? Yes.
Being beat in the throat with a rubber hose? Yes.
Locked in a room with ammonia poured on the floor and forced to PT? Yes
Fingers mashed? Yes
Fingers burned? Yes
He asked me where was that done, and when I told him that's some of what the Drill Instructors did to us in Boot Camp, all he could do was stutter, uh, uh, uh....

Process vs results

What if those players had died, no biggie for the S&C coach? Just pansy players couldn't handle it so that's on them for dying?

Not as much evidence as being upset about football players going to the hospital with a legitimately dangerous medical condition.

So your demented drill instructor tortured his own soldiers, and you think that there is something wrong with someone for being shocked by that? Weird.

Oh, yes, possible permanent kidney damage is a tell tale sign of pussification.

Dumbass.

All those tactics used by the military to desensitize...worked on that dude.

I was a combat soldier and none of that happens, except sleep deprivation.

All the players are saying that breaks were allowed and the workouts weren't gruesome. This was a case of a few guys trying to exert themselves too much.

Personally, I think the suspension should be for making a regimen that makes no sense.

They didn't almost die. Most cases of this illness are very treatable and reversible. People die from getting the flu but most come through unscathed. Stop being dramatic.
