Dave is on 103.7. Morning show, 6-9.

And yes, Former would be fitting. Let's not kid ourselves here. Jennings started only because he was the only QB that had been in the system for longer than a spring and a fall. And after the way the 2013 season ended, there was no way Miles was benching the hero. Not to mention Jennings got benched for and eventually replaced by Brandon Harris.

"SEC Quarterbacks" don't transfer to the Sun Belt for the hell of it. He transferred because there was no way he was going to play at an SEC school.

Contrary to what Dave Schultz thinks, McNeese has and has had its fair share of major FBS conference transfers as well. I'm not bashing Jennings for not cutting it at LSU. I'm bashing idiot sports radio DJs who want to continually call a guy what he is not.

Call Jennings whatever you want. No one else cares.

Bottom line is he's a talented athlete who'll face lower competition and will be in a system that fits him much better.

As far as the game goes....I have no idea what to make of the cajuns this year so I guess we'll see. One thing is for sure, if we beat mcneese, we won't be bragging about it for the next 5-6 years.

But honestly, ULL fans are legit insecure.

I don't think I know any of those fans.

quote:

"This is an easy win."
"McNeese has no chance."

Specifically none of those.

"Why are we scheduling McNeese?"
"We gain nothing by playing McNeese"

These are legitimate statements to make, from a certain perspective, because McNeese is a powerhouse FCS program and are in no way an easy win. While it is arguable about whether there are "good losses", an FBS team losing to an FCS team is always percieved as a bad loss. Regardless of the quality of the FCS team.

Other than playing in that powerhouse Sun Belt, I'm not sure there's much of a difference between the two programs

Certainly true, in terms of football. I would argue that McNeese is far and away the better program. Undeniably so in the long term sense.

FTR I grew up in Lafayette, Live in Lafayette and am a Ragin Cajun alumni. I am, however only slightly better than a marginal UL Football fan.

I do wish more of the old rivalry games occurred more often (I harken back to the USL-Mcneese and USL-La Tech anual games). Although USL seemingly came out on the short end of the stick more often than not, the games were usually exciting.

He is a 10.6 one hundred meter guy so he has elite football speed. He's also 5'10" 205ish. Plays exactly like Reggie Bush.

Definitely not at LSU. He picked because he had a good chance to play this year.

That makes sense, a top level FCS school will attract some of the better FBS transfers looking to play without sitting out a year.

BTW, I pull for McNeese when they are not playing the Tigers or the Cajuns.

Wrong on all accounts. We have tried to schedule McNeese before this year, 2012 I believe. We had a team drop us and left us with a game to fill. You guys were playing Nebraska I think so you wouldn't cancel the $$$$$ game for a game against the Cajuns. Your Former AD tried to demand a home and home. In which we said GTFO, no FBS program will ever play at a FCS school.

So 5 years after that beat down, a few NOLA Bowl wins and a cancelled game you finally had enough confidence to try to put them on your schedule but they already had a game with a school 10 times better and that is McNeese's fault?

Talking to a school that already had a full schedule after someone backed out of a game with you does not constitute trying to schedule a game. Especially if backing out of the game could have cost the school money.

I've been told in the past that FBS schools CANNOT play at FCS schools according to the NCAA, but that rule has never been produced to back up that statement. Either way, the Sun Belt is basically a high level FCS conference, so don't act like this is LSU or Texas playing at McNeese.

I'll be honest, it doesn't really make sense for UL Lafayette to play at an FCS school. Nevertheless, they have definitely avoiding scheduling us. We aren't a cupcake win for them, and they truly don't have much to gain by playing us. They either beat the FCS school like they should or get embarrassed again.

Exactly. It really is a wonder that they play this game. If I was them, I wouldn't worry myself with an FCS school, especially McNeese. What do they have to gain from it? Nothing.

I agree with this. Sometimes kids end up at a Power 5 school because of their recruiting rankings and camp performances when in the end, is not an elite guy. Sometimes fits better and can succeed at a lower level.

i feel good about Tabary. i think Ashcroft is very good and has a great arm, and this guy beat him out, so that makes me feel good.

as far as McNeese, i think it will be a good, not great team this year. new staff, new qb, new secondary. i think 9-2 or 8-3 is probable.

ULL game will be very tough. say what you will, but ULL is still a D1 team with a deeper roster and a SEC QB. i dont give a crap about last year, you know they will be pumped to play us.

a lot of things have to go our way to pull it off, but it wont be a blowout one way or the other.

put it this way, offshore has it as a double digit favorite for ULL.

I do like the direction the program is going with Guidry. the attitude seems up and up

At the time UL contacted McNeese the Nebraska game wasn't scheduled. McNeese wanted a $500k guarantee to play at UL. No FCS team is getting $500k to play at any G5 program.

So why doesn't Tulane schedule ULM, La Tech or the Cajuns anymore than they already do? Which is a rarity.

There will be more Cajun fans in Yulman Stadium than Tulane fans. Yet you chime in regarding McNeese.

I bet ULL would have just backed out of the game just like App St did. I don't recall hearing a thing about ULL being a possibility for '14. I don't even recall our guys who are "in the know" talking about it. I do remember in 2014 when this game was scheduled.

Hey, maybe it was talked about. Maybe our guys did want $500k. Then again, considering we didn't even get that from Nebraska, I don't know how much I believe that. If Nebraska didn't even pay $500k, I doubt we asked that of ULL.

Serious question - what are the average attendance numbers for these two schools. I have no idea about McNeese but when I happen to notice ULL attendance it always seems to be around 20 - 25,000 per game.

McNeese has averaged about 11k or 12k the past few years. Top 20 in attendance often. Sam Houston State is the only other Southland school that averages 10k+.

Because we don't want to; not much history with those teams anyway.
And ULL yakking about attendance...good gracious.

If USL loses to McNeese and goes 0-3 going into Tulane, they won't have 3,000 in Yulman.
