Who remembers the 1998 Parkview Baptist team? That squad was basically a loaded AAU team.
ETA: Ben Perkins from Vinton was a bad man, too.

Don't forget James Collins with that silky J and unlimited range. When LSU signed DMITCH that year I was mad they picked him over Collins. Obviously DMITCH was the right choice though.

I played against Neil Reid in high school so it had to be early to mid 90's. I was in high school from 1991-1995. I think I played against him in 1992 if I'm not mistaken.

Damn I thought it was the back end, didn't realize it was the same year as me.

Brandon Dean at Ouachita was one of the best tickets NELA has ever had, averaged over 28 ppg. Wish he had stuck with his commitment to Clemson, but he had a solid career at Arkansas. Won MVP of the SEC tourney I believe. Dude had filthy hops, won the College Slam Dunk contest
Also, Lonnie Cooper was great at McCall in the early 90s, had a great career at La Tech

Brandon Dean/Ouachita versus Arcadia's Marcus Fizer and Renaldo Bratton (LSU) was one of the most talent filled high school games I saw. Fizer was a man amongst boys and Brandon Dean ended up winning the SEC tourney mvp in 2000, then later won the college slam dunk contest. He is the best dunker I've ever seen. People showed up just to watch him warm up. Nolan Richardson really screwed him imo, by throttling him back... he was a beast.
Andy Slocum from WM was a big center that went to A&M.
There was a kid from Wossman named Derrick Zimmerman that nearly averaged a quadruple double that ended up at Mississippi State.
Neville had a Turpin kid in late 90s that could fill it up.
I watched a lot of talented basketball up in North La back in the day.
Winnsboro, my hometown, battled McCall from Tallulah for 3A supremacy in the early 90s. Intense, great basketball was played amongst those two teams. One year, McCall pimp walked out to Let's Get It On for their warm up...it was cool as frick. After the game, shots were literally fired at Winnsboro's bus on the way out of the lot.... it was a HEATED rivalry.

Dude ha, you posted right before me...we watched the same games for sure.
Winnsboro had a kid named Chris Rollins that went to Alabama after Juco, and Conan Horton (great name) went to Southern Miss. Winnsboro High had a great basketball coach named James Remedies who wound up being a higher up at WMHS.

Played Vinton with Ben Perkins and saw that guy windmill dunk from the free throw line. It was crazy! We held him to only 8 points and beat Vinton's arse that night though.

Man, I feel like this is a throw back thread to Kenramsey, when it didn't suck.

Haha, I got to attempt to guard B Dean in practice everyday for 3 years!! And yes, the Arcadia game was a blast. It was actually a playoff tune up game, that game lived up to the hype. Calvin Hunter/Dean guard combo was a treat to watch. Calvin fizzled out at Grambling.
Fizer did his best to recruit Dean to ISU as well. But you're spot on about Richardson, Brandon went to a bbq at his house and the rest was history. I believe B Dean is still in Ark coaching last I heard

If you played at Ouachita then I saw you guys play no less than 10 games, including at Winnsboro when the crowd waited all game for Dean to throw down and he finally got a two handed power jam in traffic... black folk started running all over the stands...ha
I was at the Don Redden tourney when Ouachita and West Monroe were playing each other and the Ouachita crowd started getting "unruly" (ha) and all of a sudden the doors to the gym swung open and the entire West Monroe power lifting team came strutting in, and who was standing in the middle of that pack?...a gigantic freshman named Andrew Whitworth with his sleeves rolled up... it was hilarious to see the Ouachita crowd get settled down a bit...
That Don Redden classic was quality entertainment.
What was really amazing about Fizer was how slick of a dribble he was for a kid that was roughly the size of Karl Malone.
Bakari Beckwith and Wojeck (spelling) were also good talents.

Kyle Hornsby was blond headed and a great player. Lost his girlfriend in a car accident his junior year (I'm good friends with her dad).
The "best game I ever saw" post above made me think of mine. Circa 1981 (I believe) I got to see Bernice vs. Summerfield. Bennie Anders vs. Karl Malone. That night was something else

And yes, Zimmerman was great as well. Turpin had some handles....he's related to the Turpin kid at TCU, great athletes in that family
Posted on 1/28/16 at 10:25 am to Honest Tune
Basketball is the only sport that WM is the bitch at in that rivalry haha
Posted on 1/28/16 at 10:25 am to HarrisLetsRide
Do you remember the West Monroe game when the WM power lifting team came rolling in? Good times.
I figured the TCU Turpin kid was related to the older one.
