Dude, if championship amount is the only basis of determining who the greatest player of all-time is, then Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are in the GOAT discussion. Let me just underscore Russell won 8 STRAIGHT NBA titles against some of the greatest collection of teams and talent that existed-I believe 14 NBA 50 players competed during that stretch on the top teams in the East/West. Also, Russell accomplished a repeat title for the Celts as player-head coach at age 35 probably the only time that has ever happened in NBA history. Kareem won 6 NBA titles and was a dominant player in the league for 19 seasons before being finally supplanted by Magic at age 40. Averaged 24-11 and is the league's all-time scoring leader.

I agree that about titles won..... but if you want to compare MJ and Bron...... the titles DO mean something.....

This debate seems to never end. But I enjoy it because you can immediately identify someone as stupid when they keep clinging to mj as the better player. The logic behind their arguments makes them look so damn stupid.

Depends on the context of the comparison. James will never be undefeated in the finals (a stat neither he nor Jordan had complete control of), nor does James have the benefit of the timing Jordan enjoyed. As such, their careers will always be viewed through different prisms with regard to their holistic impact.

If the context is purely basketball talent/acumen, though, unbiased observers easily pick James. No question.

Oh yeah, not underrating titles but when comparing players with multiple usually the logical approach is to incorporate all the elements and evidence available, generally what I've observed in the presentation of player comparison.

I'd have to imagine LeBron would be much more effective in a league that only allowed man to man defense also. That seems to get lost in the shuffle.

Defense has gotten better, and players even more freakishly versatile.

LJ is too much of a crybaby to play in that league.

defensive schemes have become beyond sophisticated while at the same time, players have gotten bigger, strong, and faster... but MJ still played in the tougher era.

Because both players played in a time where the pace of the game was different, let's look at their stats per 100 possessions to put them on a more even playing field (I also took out Jordan's 2 seasons with the Wizards since we're trying to gauge who is the better player, and LeBron isn't in his old man years yet):

Jordan per 100 poss:
41.5 ppg, 8.3 reb, 7.1 ast, 3.3 stl, 1.2 blk, 3.7 TO, 58.0% TS%, 29.1 PER

LeBron per 100 poss:
36.7 ppg, 9.8 reb, 9.8 ast, 2.2 stl, 1.0 blk, 4.6 TO, 58.4% TS%, 27.6 PER

Same stats, playoffs per 100 possessions:

Jordan:
43.3 ppg, 8.3 reb, 7.4 ast, 2.7 stl, 1.1 blk, 4.0 TO, 56.8% TS%, 28.6 PER

LeBron:
36.6 ppg, 11.4 reb, 8.8 ast, 2.3 stl, 1.2 blk, 4.6 TO, 57.2% TS%, 27.8 PER

By the Lebron lover rules, Westbrook is the best player in the league. Read below...This is when MJ experimented at PG. He chose to win over anything else. 7 consecutive triple doubles...

So you admit that you were making fun of yourself when you were talking about illogical conclusions?

And Lebron complains about the AC in the playoffs.

So Lebron improves in the playoffs while MJ gets worse compared to the regular season.
