Not only did LeBron James and the Cavs’ 102-99 victory over the Boston Celtics and the Rockets’ dramatic 122-121 victory over current champs the Golden State Warriors rise 46% over last year’s October 25 opener, but it marked a clear win over all of cable.

Breaking things down to the individual games, the numbers prove an even more dramatic ratings dunk with double-digits rises in both cases. For the first game in Cleveland, which started with Cavs players linking arms in solidarity during the national anthem, there was an 82% uptick from last year’s New York Knicks-Cavs season opener. Last night’s Cavs -Celtics game drew a 4.0 MM rating with a peak of a 4.8 in the 10:15-10:30 PM ET slot.

All of that was happening as over on TBS the Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1 in Game 3 to take a 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. Up 26% in MM ratings over 2016’s Game 3 with 4.3 result,

The Warriors-Rockets game hit its own high with a 4.4 rating in the 10:30-10:45 PM ET slot as the championship trophy ceremony was shown on-air.

That Cubs game went to "suck" very quickly. And it went from suck to blow even more quickly.

It's the far more entertaining TV product to the casual fan.

The MLB playoffs are/have been tense as hell for fans of those 4 teams, but doesn't carry the same weight to casual eyes.

Not really that big of a surprise. The NBA will take a ratings hit during the WS if the Yankees win the ALCS but the NBA opening night is going to outdraw a FS1 game and a blowout to take a 3-0 lead

Literally the only reason I tuned into the NBA last night was because they have a rule that forces the players to stand for the anthem

They had a lot going on with the NBA yesterday and neither baseball team could clinch

- Season Opener
- Boston-Cleveland trade animosity
- Bulls fight
- GSW rings
- Broke arse ankle in game 1

I casually watch basketball and found myself watching between innings because of all the things going on

Part of this is because I had to flip thru about 20 channels to figure out what channel the baseball playoffs were on.

Every night it is a different channel

Not everyone can be Walmart. Sometimes you have to be in tune with your inner star player and know that it is ok to be Target.

I'm like 99 percent sure the entire ALCS has been on FS1.

Not surprising these are the best ratings the NBA will do until the 2nd round of the playoffs except for maybe Christmas. So for it to slightly be ahead of game 3 of a so far uncompetitive series. The Yankees game 5 will a do a much bigger number tonight I think

EDIT: I take that back I forgot these games are on FS1

I think Saturday was Fox. The rest were FS1. All of he NLCS has been TBS aka the channel right next to TNT which the NBA was on

I guess the Astros and Yankees didn't stand for the Anthem?

OP left this out, immediately following the comma in quote #3:

quote:

last night’s MLB game was the highest rated single program on all of cable

Sounds like some solid "running" going on.
