Stupid people didn't.

Just look at this thread.

He (and his agency) is the Cavs brain trust. No active player in the history of the NBA* has more power over a franchise than LeBron has over the Cavs, sans Bill Russell when he was coaching.

*as in not retired and then purchased
an NBA team.

The frick?

Please list NBA players who consistently sign one-year deals (option) just to become a FA and do it all over again

He's just a drama queen and insecure. Does deals to prop up his image. Sign a year, if team doesn't win, opt out to make a scene, get more money, more TV time, write a letter to sports illustrated, etc

He's ultimately doing it to get more money, he'll probably sign a long term deal in 2016. He most likely opted out this offseason to put pressure on the Cavs to make all of the moves that he wants them to make, because he's only going to get a ~500k raise next season by opting out. He's got them by the balls and he knows it.

The main reason he's done it is because of the unique cap situation. He stands to gain a couple mil from opting out and will cash in big time next year when the cap explodes.

He actually doesn't even gain 1 mil by opting out this offseason, where he gains the most money is opting out next season. This offseason is about having control of what moves the Cavs are going to make.

Take a paycut this season and let the Cavs load up on one year deals for key starters/bench player.

Win ship

Take the Cavs for all they've got on the next contract

Well...further proving my point that he's gone crazy about his personal image.

He knows he's a player/coach/GM/president/CEO/comissioner

I think it's more about him feeling that they didn't make adequate moves to put good players around him the first time he was in Cleveland. He isn't going to make that mistake again, if he signs a long term deal then they can dick around and there's nothing he can do about it.
