The Dodgers are one of the most iconic franchises, but I think it was more about the Brooklyn name. It sounds cool and unique and was the only pro franchise associated with the borough until very recently. All the other former homes of franchises had other teams that are/were associated with it, but Brooklyn Dodgers was totally unique.
