what ive been able to come up with legit other examples of franchises who moved/became defunct are the whalers, sonics, and the colts

i think 1958 with the Dodgers and Giants moving really legitimized the West coast of the USA... it was a watershed moment in air travel and really made California what it is today... it also helped usher in the modern era of MLB and made it truly national.

There definitely isn't as much interest nationally as the Dodgers, but if they announced tomorrow that the Texans were switching the Oilers name and branding everyone here would be ecstatic I think. The Dodgers are more of a historical intrigue (since NYC isn't getting a third team any time soon) while the Oilers are still a fresh wound
