They were never the Spiders. That is the name of the National League franchise when Cleveland had a team in the NL.

The Commies is pretty bad but fitting

It’s amazing how much grown men pay so much attention to this

This you?
The typical American progressive, liberal folks. Telling you ignorant minorities how to act and feel.

for 'rebrands' - Washington DC owns both of them - the Commanders and Wizards - so damn bad but they deserve it -
oh let's not forget the GNATS, too

The Spiders in 1899 had literally the worst team ever… I can understand why Cleveland didn’t want to go back to that

Because the rules were different at that time allowing their owner to also own the St Louis Browns, IIRC, then shipped all their talent like Cy Young (yes, THAT Cy Young) to St Louis.
It would be the equivalent to the Yankees buying the Rangers and then sending their crap players to Texas in exchange for the team’s stats.

As a lifelong Indians fan…YES…the Guardians is quite possibly the worst rebrand ever…zero meaning…named after a bridge…a bridge??? And to add insult to injury, it takes away from the movie Major League. It pisses me off to no end that 20 years from now, there will be an entire segment of the population that thinks the movie is a made up franchise. Salty…if they absolutely HAD to rebrand, they should have went with Tribe
The brand was iconic. Now it's generic nonsense.

The Indians name was literally made to honor the first Native American baseball player.
Leave it to white liberals to get offended for everyone else.

The brand was more noted for the "Wild Thing" than World Championships.

Instead of renaming themselves the guardians they should of called themselves the Cleveland Baseball Team.

It’s an excellent nickname. It has historical reference and is different.

Not just the first...or the second...but THREE!!! Cleveland had three Native Americans on their roster so everyone started calling them "the Indians"...the term is historic in nature. It describes REAL history within MLB...but some "progressive" was offended for everyone else and now that history is gone. I'll tell you this much though...the name isn't sticking with the fan base..at all!!!! Keep an eye on this franchise moving forward. The Dolan's only signed an extension with the city that ends in 36' i believe. If this rebrand continues to fail and the current stadium situation continues to become a joke...this franchise will be relocated. Mark my words...destroy the namesake, destroy the stadium...destroy the fan base!!! Move the team and start over....
