Pop is the best coach in the history of the NBA. Your loss.

Usually the snarky old basketball fans hate everything about the NBA except for the Spurs. Weird to see them used as a reason to not watch it.

To be fair to the OP, the Spurs were boring to watch for years until Pop revamped his offensive system a few years ago. Remember the 75-72 score in the NBA finals against the Cavs or the very low scoring game 7 of the NBA finals against the Pistons. They were a very defensive oriented team for years sort of like Mayweather in boxing. If you were a basketball purist, you appreciated their greatness but a lot of the casuals were tuning out.

I'm not sure you even understand the Spurs era.

It's true, but even casual fans admitted last year's arse kicking from the spurs was a thing of beauty.

Welcome to the club

The NBA has been scripted for years

Tim Donaghy blew the lid off of it

The upside to knowing the NBA is scripted is betting. I said before the playoffs started that the Cavs would lose to the Spurs-Clippers winner in the finals as that is what the NBA wants. And so far that's unfolding perfectly.

You obviously didn't come up in the Jordan era, unless it was the very end of it. The Spurs are the only reason I watch basketball because they play the way teams played in the Jordan era...as a team. I would take Celtics, Lakers, Pistons, Bulls, Suns, hell any team from the late 80's thru the mid-late 90's over any of the bullshite put out on the court today other than the Spurs.

All these pussies playing nowadays wouldn't have survived a playoff series against any of the teams I mentioned above since you could actually play defense back then and put your hands on the offensive player. Not to mention what they give out T's for now probably wouldn't even be called hard fouls back then.

yeah that isolation-dominated era displayed the epitome of "team" basketball

the spurs were boring as hell to watch, but they were completely unselfish ad played as a team the way it is supposed to be done. As far as refs go, the clippers won by 80! ejecting howard had nothing to do with it

Well, bye.

You said two dumb arse things in your post.

Spurs era killed that

I don't give a shot about the Clippers or Rockets, but I see the Refs still decide games.

If you weren't entertained by the second half of that Rocket-Clippers game, then basketball isn't for you. That was fun to watch.

That ejection of Howard was unreal.
you do realize he should have been ejected when he made contact with the ref in the first 5 mins of the game....right?

then he throws the ball at the ref...

You know the Kobe/shaq Lakers "era" was smack dab in the Spurs "era", right?

Agreed. I dislike the Spurs for a few reasons but I respect them greatly. They win with actual strategy, x's and o's, and team ball. It may not be as sexy as dunking all the time etc but I vastly prefer it to watching teams like the Lakers.

While watching great ball movement is fun, there is something poetic in watching two superstars of the sport going at it back and fourth.

This is so far from the truth...

The 90's... and specifically the mid to late 90's was WAY more ISO heavy than today.

The game was slow, isolation, boring basketball.

That was the main reason for changing the illegal defense rules and allowing zone defense. To reduce isolation basketball and make for a more fast-paced game.

Either you never really watched basketball back then, or you are letting your nostalgia blind you.
