How long until the NFL cannot discriminate due to age?

I bet it is not long until underclassmen try to use the age discrimination angle to enter into the draft early.

My mistake, I had thought this was an NCAA issue

You sure about that? You may want to edit.

Never
The NFL is a man's league and there are very few 17 year olds who are ready to be on the same field mentally or physically with grown men.

I'm being selfish, but I like it the way it is. I quit watching college basketball for the most part for that reason.
Plus, there's no way a college freshman could go into the NFL and take that kind of pounding.

Maurice Clarett tried that already and failed. It was held up by the US Court
quote:
In his attempt to enter the 2004 NFL Draft, Clarett challenged the NFL's rule that a player must wait three years after graduating from High School to declare for the draft. Federal Judge Shira Scheindlin initially ruled based on anti-trust grounds that the NFL could not bar Clarett from participating in the 2004 NFL Draft.[7] This decision was later overturned by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in an opinion by Judge Sonia Sotomayor, and Clarett's petition for certiorari was refused by the Supreme Court.[8] Clarett and USC wide receiver Mike Williams, who were both hoping to enter the draft early, were then barred from the draft by the NFL. Later, because they both signed agents before being denied the opportunity to join the NFL Draft, the NCAA refused to reinstate the college eligibility of Clarett or Williams.

NBA should adopt the NFL policy.

My take on this subject is well known. Age discrimination in the USA takes many forms. The worst is the legal drinking age distancing the legal adult age by 3 years. Married, military, enter into any legal contract? No problem. Get a beer at a pub? Not old enough. Silliness.
I wonder what would happen if the NFL had a "no player over 40 clause". Or to help them out - no player that is X amount removed from HS.

They want a certain readiness level both physically and mentally and they have determined that 3 yrs out of high school seems optimal. It's not really an age thing.

It's not as simple as just changing the age rule... You would have to change roster limits, spend more time developing the younger players or hire more coaches to do that, and how does it affect the draft?
You can draft kids out of high school for MLB or 1 year removed from high school in the NBA because they have the minors and the NBA D-League... They can keep the players in the minors or D-League until they are ready, then call them up. Don't have to deal with them til then. What does the NFL have? The CFL? Get real. Do you think NFL teams are gonna sit there and let an 18 year old kid have a roster spot and wait 3 years for him to develop and not be able to contribute til then? Nope.
College is where the players are developed for the NFL. It's their D-League / minors. And football is the sport that is most dependent on physical maturity and development. It takes time. It's also extremely hard to project how a kid will grow in size and as a player. Some kids are maxed out at 18years old, even some of the bigger prospects. Might not grow or get any better. I mean look at all the highly rated recruits that bust and do nothing in college. And that's just going from high school to college. Imagine how hard it would be to project a kid going from high school to the NFL... Nearly impossible. And look at all the guys they have missed out on too.... Best QB in the NFL, Rodgers, had to play at a Community College because he didn't have an offer out of high school. JJ Watt was a 2* player who went to Central Michigan as a TE before transferring to Wisky. Etc,etc.
And it's where players first see opponents and teams of their caliber. Before they get to the college level, they go against regular high school teams and are rarely see more than a handful of other college players, and even more rare to be matched up against a big time national recruit as well. Basketball has the AAU circuit and baseball has the travel team / summer leagues where they go up against better talent than at the high school level. Some kids struggle with that and freak out going up against guys that big and strong for the first time and can't handle it.
It's a big jump to go from high school or 1 year removed from high school to the pros in any sport, but it's more feasible to do that in baseball or basketball than it is in football. And you might not even make it to the majors for a few years in baseball and football. It's an astronomical jump to make for football.

Youth is not a protected class in the legal sense and the NFL owes no one a job.. So not likely.

is a bar or restraunt age discriminating if they don't allow people under 21 in?
