Any truth to the rumor that Calvert bought Pine Hills just to shut it down?

I heard that they used the merger to bolster membership and make improvements to Calvert. I actually cancelled my membership when they closed PH. I played there much more than Calvert because it was easier access. The range was money since you could drive up and swing away. Calvert's is a hassle. You have to go in and get a cart and if it rains forget about it. I miss the wedge range too. No one else has one of those. It was instrumental in dropping my handicap.

Courses are closing in Minnesota. Part of it is generational. My dad and his buddies golfed all the time on weekends, Tuesday night golf leagues, trips to South Carolina for golfing.

I think the Generations Xers and below just don't play golf. I tried it, I even have clubs and shoes and I haven't been on a course in 13 years. I guess I have to say compared to other recreational things like hiking or walking or biking or softball golf is just more difficult to master so you don't embarrass yourself.

Buisness is down, but we have great public courses in NE Ohio. Check out Sleepy Hollow in Breckville and Fowlers Mill in Chesterland to name just a few. I probably have a dozen courses within a 15 minute drive.

Ya do have some pretty nice courses up there. I played one outside of Columbus that was built on a landfill. Nicer than a lot of the courses in LA.

Foot golfers are poor. They won't keep courses open.

Leisure time has been eaten up by working longer hours for the same amount of discretionary income. Simply no time to swing the sticks.

I don't have the time for golf that I once did.....I play maybe 15 rounds a year now. 10 years ago I did that in 2 months.

I am about to let my golf club membership go.....that was my one true luxury expense. I don't use the course or facilities enough to justify the cost.

Baton Rouge never really did have a bustling golf scene. Briarwood, Fairwood and Shenandoah all closed down quite some time ago. It's sad that BR has one decent course that's public (Santa Maria).

Yes, he is.

He's a club pro though right?

Not knocking him. If he is making a nice living then he is living my dream and makes me want to cut myself.

But he is not a touring pro. He's the guy that posted photos of all the bags in the clubhouse when the tour hit his club.

ETA: Answer for OP. I live in Houston. We have 2 Top Golfs now and I believe talks of a 3rd? I guess it is doing well. Energy industry doing well as of late so it has to be doing well here. However I get a few more discount round offers daily from many courses so maybe they are feeling a squeeze. The are is really saturated with courses. Some of the clubs (Old Orchard) are worth more as property and sell out to developers. There was a shitty club here in Katy that did the same. Old Orchard was not a shitty course however.
