you mean cajun field...

No, I mean the Cajundome. It seats 11,000+ when configured for football*, and it is indoors. I'm not going to risk having the state finals ruined by weather.

*I'm not sure if there is room for a full football field, but it did/does host arena football games.

i'm sure schools in texas do too but their playoffs are at college fields...

slackster you've never been in there, and you need a lot more than 11k for the state titles...

I wouldn't think it is.

yeah if holy cross wins and we have an all-Catholic League final

11k is both sides of a big stadium full with people all around the track... the Dome games are slightly bigger than that

I think most schools like playing their home games..... at home

Yes, but most schools, even the top seeds, travel at some point in the playoffs. I think the system can definitely be tweaked.

Also, any home field advantage that exist only does so because of not having to travel. As long as the crowd is behind your team, you make some money, and you don't have to travel much, I don't see why Acadiana wouldn't want to host a semifinal game @ Cajunfield.

The only exception, IMO, would be someone like Allen High School in Texas. They would be downgrading if they played at any directional schools...

with the shenanigans pulled by some catholic league schools which helped get us where we are now... and the behind closed doors moves to get 3a and 4a out of their bracket.... It will be hilarious if the Catholic league doesn't win the title...

make that fitting

Possibly. According to the Superdome, the attendance for the Prep Classic last year was roughly 50,000 for the weekend. If you've got 9 divisions, you may have a higher total attendance, but the per game numbers will be down. I think it could work.

Both home games in the top half of 5A are insane.

I already talked about Acadiana.

Same thing for Destrehan. They are the 4. Dutchtown is the 5. Destrehan already played Dutchtown at Dutchtown out of district. They won 45-14. Now this Friday, Destrehan plays Dutchtown again. AT DUTCHTOWN.

It's not like it's a travel hardship. Destrehan is a 45 minute drive. It's not Shreveport.

You wanna keep a dirt-poor public school in the delta from taking a 5 hour drive every week? Fine. But Barbe and Dutchtown are between 45-70 minutes from their opponent. And I know that a lot of a lot of kids are already coming home tomorrow after 3-4 hour drives just to come back to play Friday night. Plus, I believe Dutchtown scheduled a regular season game at Captain Shreve this year, so I doubt that a 45 minute drive would kill them.

the rule of thumb should be if the travel causes you to miss more than one period of class, the game should be on a non-school day...
No, the current rule is just fine. No need to operate a school's facilities on a non-school day. Home field advantage for the higher seed doesn't come close to being important enough to change how schools operate.

There is absolutely no way the Cajundome could host a football game. An arena field is 60 yards from goal post-thingy to goal post-thingy. A regulation football field is 120. Not to mention width and sidelines.

Been there, done that. Acadiana hosted West Monroe at Cajun Field in the semifinals in 2001. West Monroe won 41-13 with Alley Broussard scoring with a minute left to make it look closer than it was.

Not true. If there are no upsets, the higher seed is always home

Yep - when Lafayette High won state in basketball, they never left Congress Street for the playoffs.
