How is home field determined in LHSAA Playoffs?
Posted by Hat Tricks on 11/27/13 at 9:24 am00
Is strictly by seed or are there other factors?

Every team has to play on the road at least once. I know if the lower seed wins they get a home game the following week. If you play two at home then you travel the following week. It's confusing...

It's a stupid rule.
Acadiana beat Barbe
Acadiana won district
Acadiana is the #1 seed in 5A
But Acadiana has to play ON THE ROAD against Barbe. Because Hahnville beat Ouachita.
It's designed to keep things fair and not make a poor small school travel all over the state for a month. But sometimes it defies all logic. Like in the above situation.

Thanks. So Many has played both games so far at home in the 2A playoffs and is playing at home again this Friday. So no matter what they're most likely playing on the road next week if they win, right?

First round is highest seed. After that the home team is decided by who traveled last. If both teams traveled last it goes by who traveled most and then highest seed.

not if they are a higher seed than opponent and opponent has not traveled either..

Not true. If there are no upsets, the higher seed is always home. Theoretically the 1 and 2 seed can be home every round until the Dome. Only when there are upsets does this change. When an upset occurs, the team that traveled gets at least one home game, unless the team they're playing is also an upset and has a higher seed than them. When you get to the quarters and semis, typically the highest seeds will travel at least one of those weeks because somebody, somewhere had an upset. In a perfect world, higher seed is always home.
Utter bullshite. Episcopal is the #1 seed, gets a bye first round, wins game in quarters and has to go on the road to some chicken shite stadium in Covington for the semis. I liked the rule but that only worked for a 32 team bracket. No point in doing it now with select since its only a 14 team bracket.

Actually, it looks like they eliminated the "traveled last" part. Here is the language straight from the LHSAA website:
quote:
6.13.9 Determining the Home Team: In the sports of baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, and volleyball, the home team for playoff games shall be determined as follows:
1. Bi-District Round of Play
....A. In all classes, the higher seeded team shall be the home team.
....B. A “bye” shall be counted as a home game.
2. Regional Round of Play
....A. In all classes, any team that drew a bye in the bi-district round shall be the home team.
....B. In all classes, the team that traveled in the bi-district round shall be the home team unless No. 1 is applicable.
....C. If both teams traveled or were home teams in the bi-district round, the higher seeded team shall be the home team.
3. Quarterfinal Round of Play (If played on a home-away basis)
....A. The team that has traveled more in the bi-district and regional rounds shall be the home team.
....B. If both teams have traveled the same number of times in the bi-district and regional rounds, the higher seeded team shall be the home team.
4. Semi-final Round of Play (If played on a home-away basis)
....A. The team that has traveled most shall be the home team.
....B. If teams have traveled the same number of times in the bi-district, regional, and quarterfinal rounds, the higher seeded team shall be the home team.
5. At the state championships (in all applicable rounds of play) the higher seeded team shall be the home team.
6. Opposing schools may, by mutual agreement, reverse a game site. A reversal of the home/away site for any reason shall not affect the criteria cited in the above rules.

you send a school like that on the road enough times, eventually they'll lose and no more travel costs needed...
i'd like to see the semifinals at neutral sites like our FCS college campuses, and also divide the brackets like Mississippi into north (and west) state and south state

So you got a bye, then a home game, and get to play TWO fewer games to get to the Dome and you're mad about a 60 minute drive? Parkway is the #2 seed and has to travel 4-5 hours FOUR TIMES to make it to the Dome.

Parkway's first game might as well have been home...

True....but that's not a result of the home field rules. That's a unique situation.

Yep.
Sorry for the kids, but their principal is a dumbfark who gave the finger to the LHSAA by power-tripping.

Just saying I think Episcopal got a pretty sweet deal. They have to win TWO GAMES to make it to the Dome, half of the typical bracket, one of which was at home.
