You're going to have to decide what's going to count and what isn't.

He has 6 conference titles. 3 of those are FBS. 1 being a major conference that doesn't exist any more.

Harbaugh went to 3 straight NFC title games and a Super Bowl he was a play away from winning.

It's not uncommon for a coach to reach a level that they no longer can compete at. Mike Dubose did some damage at Millsaps after leaving Bama is an example of how this sort of thing works.

No, not really. This isn't free agency where players have to be without a contract to be signed by other teams. Coaches' contracts can be gotten out of in almost all cases if someone is willing to pay for it. The pool of coaches is not limited to those currently unemployed. So "on the market" is not applicable to hiring coaches.

Kelly has like 6 conference titles. several coach of the year awards, a better overall coaching record, i meant its not even comparable.

Harbuagh took over a (1-11) Stanford team and a (5-7) Michigan team.

Kelly took over an (8-5) Cincinnati team and a (6-6) Notre Dame team.

It is natural to expect that Kelly would have a better overall record. They weren't exactly starting at the same place.

He's the backup to the returning starter senior who was dogshit and just as bad as O'Korn when he did play.

ETA- I don't think Harbaugh is a bad coach. I think he's top 5-10 in the country. He shouldn't be on the hot seat, there isn't a better realistic coach UM could find to replace him. I just don't think he should continue to get passes as there is a subsect of Michigan fans who want him to be in the Saban/Meyer conversation when he's got 6-8 years as a CFB head coach now and not a single division title to his name, let alone conference or natty. Maybe this sect of fans has died down, but it certainly did exist somewhat- although maybe exasperated by the media. I live in Ohio and know plenty of Michigan fans who anointed him as soon as he took the job.

Yes he took over an absolute dumpster fire at Stanford and deserves a ton of credit for turning them around into a very good program again.

At Michigan, he's also done a great job but it's disingenuous to insinuate he took over a terrible situation. The talent was certainly there when he took the job, Hoke had brought in good classes - they just needed someone who could coach and develop the talent.

To be honest, I didn't really get all the hype he had when he was hired. He wasn't the best of coaches in the NFL and wasn't the best of players in the NFL either. He did have two good seasons at Michigan as a player though, gotta give him that.

Also, for as "well" as he recruits, it doesn't really seem like that they have had any true star players outside of Jabrill Peppers these past few years.

Harbaugh going 9-3 each year with losses to Michigan State, Penn State, and Ohio State is perfect. He still gets into a decent bowl game each year, gets hyped before the season starts and the games against MSU, PSU, and OSU still matter given he still wins 9 games a year. The best part is that he's never in national title or Rose Bowl contention in November.

He and Michigan were literally in the national title picture last year up to the very last week. They were an OSU win away from the playoffs.

Man, this board has become obsessed with Harbaugh

if you're going to criticize him, then do it for last year. He had a roster full of upperclassman and he blew it. This team now is young with some really bad holes (oline, qb). They should be improved next year but UM fans need to lower their expectations. It might not be till 2019 before he wins a big 10 title. His Oline recruiting has not been good.

LOL. The on-field results are not there, but they're getting a pretty damn good ROI on that 9 mil for sure.

I hate Harbaugh and I have no love for Michigan but this thread is over reactionary as frick.

The dude made Stanford good and took the Niners to the playoffs nearly every year he was there. He's a good coach. Bottom line.

He's won 10 games every year in a conference that's pretty damn good now. MSU, Ohio State and Wisconsin are no slouches

That's nice

But that's not why Michigan brought him there and pays him so much. He needs to start beating Rivals
