It's December 2014. You are UM AD

You receive word that jim harbaugh is willing to come but because of steep competition with NFL teams, it will be costly

What do you do

1) pass on harbaugh and hire another person who is available in 2014

2) pay him what is necessary to get him to come

'

Hire Les Miles away from LSU

Les would be fired up (reborn) to coach at his alma mater. he would be just as good of a recruiter as Harbaugh and has a record of being very competitive with his in conference rivals.

Mich replaced berkeley as #1 public academic. Uc berkeley #2. I think in a couple of years harbaugh will compete again. They lost a lot to nfl. Its harder than stanford to recruit for.

I mean the range of excuses truly never ends. UM absolutely does NOT have any tougher academic admission standards for football players than any of the other Big Ten schools. They will let in real morons for football that schools like Stanford and Notre Dame won't. This has been shown time and time again, kid qualifies per the NCAA and they're in.

I also love the backup QB excuse. Speight played this year and was absolutely awful, threw some of the worst throws I've ever seen. O'korn is better and would be playing regardless of the injury. UM fans were saying as such just a few weeks ago. But now it's an excuse along with the youth thing.

I agree that UM will be solid under Harbaugh but there will always be any number of excuses made for why he doesn't have them in the top-5.

This is what they should have done. I then wouldn’t find myself having trouble pulling for Michigan at the end of the regular season. His hire has made such a large portion of the fan base ridiculous.

You were much more fun when you melted after winning games. Now Michigan is sucking and you're defending it.

Agreed, assuming he actually sticks around. I'm skeptical. He just doesn't look as engaged this year. He almost looks miserable out there.

I'm just throwing this out there, but I wonder if him having a baby at home is a bit of a distraction.

He does seem disinterested this year. Maybe he knew going into the season that it would be a bland 8-4 year.

He's usually so animated on the sidelines. He looks completely out of it this year.

Does the Sugar Bowl not count?

I would not have hired les and i love him.
Harbaugh is interesting.
If he stays the course, he'll get a team to the rose bowl, maybe to playoff. I dont care if he never wins a playoff game. Its not like michigan is a hotbed for football. He has to recruit nationally against nd, Stanford, saban and urban. He might never even win his division. State penn and the ohio state and sparty will all have a say. Tough sledding.
Its going to be hard on him.
Hes going to finish 3rd in division at best, maybe 4th.
