Yeah but those Bad Boys-Lakers and Bulls games were fun as shite to watch because sometimes pure scoring skill didn't win out...made the game...well an interesting game...a football game, styles, offense, defense...now its mostly a 3-point contest for forty-eight minutes.

That's the worst part of going. Can we go five seconds without some stupid theatrics on the court?

So the game was at it's peak when the player you think contributed to the downfall of the game was winning titles?

I didn’t want to give specific years, but Curry didn’t win a title in the “early-2010’s”. I guess depending on your definition of “mid-2010’s”, you could say he won a couple. I don’t think the league was broken yet. The sustained greatness by Curry over a decade led to everyone wanting to jack up 3’s. You could argue he is one of the most influential players ever. I just think his influence pushed this into a boring era.

For me, the 2014 Spurs were peak basketball for obvious reasons. You still had an old school post player fitting into the modern flow of a game.

I find sports more entertaining when there’s a healthy balance of offense and defense. The NFL has issues with this as well at times. Baseball went through this when they raised the pitching mound and saw averages plummet overnight and ERA’s sail under 2.00. They corrected that mistake. The NBA has tinkered with 3 point distances before. There’s no reason they can’t again.

It’s a bunch of guys trying to throw a ball through a hoop. It was never meant to be this big in the first place. Rule changes over time have simply made it more that this is a simpleton’s game.

Even with some really stupid rules basketball is such a great spectator sport when the game actually gets into a nice flow. The problem is that never fricking happens because the offensive player can initiate contact and be rewarded for it the vast majority of the time.

When attending a few LSU men’s basketball games this year, even with the PMAC 1/5 full, the atmosphere is electric when the home team is executing their offense at a high level with crisp passes, cuts, pick and rolls, etc ending in open shots or dunks. It gets even crazier and more entertaining if the other team is absorbing the hit and executing the same way on the other end.

Nothing kills the enjoyment of a game, either in person or in the stands, like fouls being called resulting in free throws. It just stops the game and kills all flow. This is why I think the NBA is so much less enjoyable for the older crowd now, the flow of the game just never seems to be consistent/get going due to touch fouls resulting in and 1 opportunities and stopping the game.

I blame James harden and his bullshite foul-seeking style of play for the proliferation of this.

Magic and Isaiah literally would kiss each other on court before tipoff.

All the best dudes were friends and liked each other.

Yes, they were friendly and liked/respected each other, but none of them were angling to play for super teams. Jordan, Bird, Isaiah, Magic, Kemp (and all 13 of his kids), Hakeem, etc never demanded trades or essentially told 80% of the league that their city wasn’t good enough and to it even try to sign them.

Yes, Bird and Magic played on historic franchises with other HOF’ers, but that’s not exactly the same as say Lebron leaving the Cavs in free agency to sign with Miami and Wade, while also signing Bosh, both top 15 players at the time.

Free agent super teams really dampened interest in the NBA from a casual/slightly serious fan standpoint, unless you were in NYC, Boston, LA, or Miami. It’s why players like Luka, Giannis, Jokic, are celebrated right now. It’s why I still love Derrick Rose.

Get rid of replay.

Amen. Same thing with football. If the replay can’t be overturned in 30 seconds, the call on the field/court stands.

Ironically, I feel like baseball is the only sport to get it right, but that could just be that it has a naturally slower pace so adding a 1 minute replay only adds to the drama and doesn’t stop the game.

As a kid in the early 90s, basketball was my first love and there was nothing better. In the last 10 years, my interest has gone down and in the last 5 years, I barely watch any games.

Maybe because you're not a little kid anymore. Congratulations?

Odd complaint. There is a 30 second or so window from when a foul happens to the time the player shoots his free throws. There's nothing wrong with showing a replay of the foul. I'd rather see a replay of the foul over showing the player walking around before he gets the ball to shoot his free throws or players subbing in. How was it "not meant to have a replay." It was meant to not show them so you can't see whether it was actually a good call or not? Honest question, do replays of penalties in football bother you?
m
He’s not talking about tv replays during dead time. He’s talking reviewed plays that take 2-3 minutes for officials to go over the screen like the zapruder film

Slow down there Webster. Obfuscate? You can’t just drop this in a 4 page long bitching thread about lack of sophistication

Hell, college basketball used to be great and I barely watch it now unless it’s LSU and March Madness. All the good players leave after one year and I have to keep learning the new players every year.
college is cooked until the one and done rule and transfer rules change. Hard to maintain that passionate fandom with a new team every year.

The style of play and athleticism is soooo much more aesthetically pleasing now than it was in the 90's. Everyone who says the 90's was better brings up Michael Jordan as their evidence, as if every player played like him in that era.
so much this. The talent level is insane right now. I can agree that the nba has an offense slanted officiating problem, which has been trending in the other direction post all star break, but there’s some good basketball being played. Ask Pels fans.
