Has the increase in internet/smartphones/Twitter caused people to watch less sports?

While expressing their views about sports even more?

I find that I read some pretty amazing takes on this board. Takes that clearly show that people aren't watching sporting events. I even think it is possible that they are turning the TV on, but I think they are scrolling on their iPhones while watching.

Because some of the hot takes I get on TD, Twitter, Facebook, might as well be wild guesses.

Not less for me, but I pay far less attention. I'll be browsing TD or other sites while watching a game and might lose track of what's going on. I only pay close attention to important games now.

I watch more because my iPhone is constantly giving me notifications about games coming on that I would have completely forgot about .. or telling me a game is close that I had no interest in but thanks to an alert or tweet I notice it's close enough to tune in.

Watch less but I think it has more to do with being older/having family than social media. I enjoy this site but find most forums/twitter to be pretty horrible.

I do a lot more multi-tasking during sporting events because scores and updates are in the palm of my hand.

I don't tune in to fewer events, though.

No, being bombarded by political commentary while watching sports has killed it for me

I watch less than I used to but that's more because I have kids and we're doing more family stuff. I'll watch college football but it isn't like I start at 11 and end after midnight like I used to. Plus the in game threads here are great.

For me it's just getting older. I'm still engaged when I watch, and the second screen enhances that for me. I just have to be more n*ggardly with my time.

My 9th grade vocabulary test had that word. I thought I'd never see it used.

On topic though, I watch the same. Watching a score update on an interesting game isn't the same as watching the "action"

I watch a little more actually because I can put a game on my tablet and prop that up to the side while I do other things.

I do that a lot with baseball, so I'll have the Rangers on there and when I get a score notification on my phone, I know to look over since the streaming apps are always just enough behind

Exactly. Especially when I'm at the event.

Hell, one of the first arguments Aggiebelle and I ever had was when she asked if we could leave a Spurs game early to beat the traffic (when the game was still very much in doubt).

I was offended. Things were said. Feelings were hurt.

She has never asked me to leave a game early again

I watch less sports on tv. I watched some 4th quarter of warriors vs rip city.
My sisters went to the w's game and still turn on games for the pre game. I use computer more than cell for games. I check scores on cell and tune in via computer. I have two tv subscriptions, satellite and a cable. The tv subscriptions work on internet.
I dont like watching games on phone. Teeny. My computer screen is way bigger than the first two tvs my family had when i got hooked on hoops.

I have bluetooth audio headset connection to satellite tv. The tv does not have to be on. So i can follow game closely and then watch if action merits. Multiprocessing.

I just got on Instagram a couple months back, and I'm amazed at the number of highlights put on there while the game is still being played. I absolutely love it.

Now ESPN's system for showing highlights online is completely fricked up. 45 second car ad to watch a 10 second highlight. Wan to watch another highlight, you must watch another 45 second ad. Dumb as frick.

I still watch the teams I typically want to watch. I now have more avenues to express my thoughts.

Are you actually asking if increased internet access has given idiots more ways to communicate?

Have you considered that these hot takes have always been prevalent, but internet/smart phones/twitter have given you greater access to them?
