2015 Katy

Katy ISD is one of my customers and the admin building I do work in sometimes is right by Katy High. They took me over to the gym and watched workouts and practice.

They practice and lift harder than I've seen any team. D side of the ball was just beasts.

85 Houston Jack Yates: Only allowed 4.8 points per game
They crushed Odessa Permian in the title game.

Realistically, I think the answer is Yates of you compare how dominant they were to teams of that time.

Allen, Lake Travis, etc put up gaudy numbers now, but so does everyone else. HSFB in Texas is all about passing, so scoring 70 in a playoff game isn't all that surprising.

The playoff field is also watered down, allowing for 2 champions per class. What if Allen and Katy had to play routinely. Fair or not, that's not the way it used to be.

Wasn't Daingerfield basically un scored on in 16 games and the offense gave up 8 points in 16 games?

85 would've obliterated any of the 80s Permian teams. Even their 89 team that won state

And their 37-0 win over Permian in the state championship that year was quite an arse whipping to say the least

The numbers point you bring us true but, that lake Travis team was special in that they had a QB put up extraordinary numbers. Even with all the passing and offensive oriented teams today, most of them don't come close to 08 LT

In 2008 Garrett Gilbert threw for 4854 and 55 TDs, and rushed for 767 yards for 23 TDs. And was the only HS QB I have ever seen who can run an offense like an NFL QB.

That is decent for a HS QB

85 Yates vs 86 La Marque

87 Plano vs 88 Dallas Carter

What a bracket that would be

LTs defense held Katy down enough to win had their offense played better

I will say Katy's defense got to LTs head, but...the LT play calling was terrible. Vanilla play calling in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, and no attempts at a deep pass

Not saying it would have made much of a difference, but they very well could have been better off. LT should have had 14 on the board but Brewer blew the first drive with forced pass turned into a pick.

Despite being a 4A in the 90's, those La Marque and Stephenville teams were loaded. It would have been interesting to see them battle the 5A champs during that stretch.

42-0. It's not the most dominating final score for a high school state championship game, but that score represented much more than a single-game domination. It was the final touch on what is widely considered the best football team ever to grace the Lone Star state - the 1983 Daingerfield Tigers. Several of the faces and players from that roster have long since left the small East Texas community and been forgotten by the town today, but the lore surrounding that team will never be forgotten. The accomplishments of that team were simply astounding. Daingerfield outscored opponents 631-8 on the way to winning the Class 3A state title and becoming the first Texas team to go 16-0. The Tigers had 14 shutouts, including 13 in a row, then a national record. And of the eight points scored against them, none was allowed by the defense. Kilgore got a safety in the first game and Carthage had an interception return for a touchdown in the third game. Daingerfield's defense scored 76 points

What was the Plano team that came back from way down to win the state title, and scored on like a lateral type onside kick or something and the announcer was like, "I think I peed a little" cause he was so excited.

They've had some great backs too. Rodney Anderson ended up at Oklahoma.

Now, we'll see where the Porter kid will end up...I hear it's between Texas, Arkansas, and TCU.

The only other team I would maybe put up there is one of those Mart Panther teams from back in the day.

ETA: If you think 2015 Katy is the best team you know nothing, literally nothing about Texas High School football. There have been good teams over the past few years, but what Daingerfield did will never be accomplished again, setting the bar at an unreachable milestone.

Are they not the best team of the last 10 years or so?

This is the correct answer. The Tigers defense scored more points(76) than they allowed(8) while going 16-0. Like you mentioned, the only points allowed came off a safety and a pick 6. Every other game was a shutout, including 13 in a row at one point. Daingerfield went 102-8-2 from '82-'89, but the '83 team is the best high school team ever, by far.

That's up for debate.

I would likely choose one of the Cameron Yoe or Allen teams in the past several years before them.

Actually, I'd know for a fact I'd choose the 2006 Liberty Hill Panthers team before them. And I actually played against them. 16-0 and beat Celina in the 3A state championship game.
