Especially if they have to pay it again next year.

I own stock in Disney and have fully analyzed the company. Disney had $6.6B in free cash flow in 2015, which is operating cash flow less capital expenditures. That number has been increasing for a while and will continue to do so, especially with Star Wars ramping up. $20M is 0.3% of $6.6B. If you made $60,000 in take home after taxes and expenses, that would be the equivalent of $180. Not exactly breaking the bank.

ESPN knew the ratings would suck, they were pushing harder than anyone to not play them on NYE.

36% drop, that's insane. There were a bunch of posters on here saying that the numbers would be just as good, if not better, on NYE

I love college football as much as anyone, but I missed the first half of the Clemson game because I was still at work. Then I watched the 1st quarter of the Alamaba game at a restaurant with friends and then the second half was on at the house party I was at for the night.

My scenario is what killed the ratings, groups of people watching at restaurants or at house parties leads to a lot less individual TV sets and the game was just background noise instead of a main event.

This is such an easy fix

1. That should be no non BCS bowl games after New Years Day Afternoon. All ball games that are non BCS bowl games should be a lead up to the BCS bowl games. After the Alabama game I had interest in my team's game and that's it. Watching the alamo bowl after you watch the Cotton Bowl is like going to Ruth Chris to have dinner then said he got a great idea let's go to McDonalds for dessert

2. On New Years Eve people are either working or getting shite faced drunk the Peach Bowl was always my annual hey I watch this game in the background while I'm getting dressed to go out bowl game. I'm the biggest college football fan there is but I'm not sitting down and watching college football all day on f****** New Year's Eve I'm going to go to get laid lol

In the age of dvr that's not going to work

For instance, just using January 2017 as an example. The New Year's Six will be on Sunday, January 1. And then you have the first semi-final game on Monday, January 2. Tuesday, January 3 will feature the next game. And then have the national title game on Tuesday, January 17.

What venues would host the semis?

They branded these games as the "New Year's Six," so it's almost like that's why they're trying to cram them all in to NYE and NYD. Who really cares, though?

You might have felt this way all along, but a common complaint before the new structure was that the BCS bowl lineup felt stretched out and the excitement watered down. Having back-to-back triple headers sounded pretty awesome when it was announced.

They are facing a problem if these NYE games are never embraced instead of this being the first year in a shift. I also thought the semi-final matchups were pretty marketable, and that won't always be the case, unless you believe the committee will never allow party-crashers in the top 4.

Because it's the best bowl game experience on the planet TV or in person...and should be a major player in every playoff...ergo on New Years Day.

Then you probably already know this but it's still interdasting. Disney will not like doling out that caish

But according to The Journal, Disney has chafed at just how much advertising ESPN is putting on its broadcasts — and how this is eating into cross-promoting other Disney content.

Via The Journal: As it trims costs, ESPN is also looking for new ways to boost revenue. In previous years, Disney’s ABC network received four minutes of time to promote its new shows for the fall during each NBA finals game it aired.

This year, ESPN, which manages the NBA rights for Disney, cut that amount by about 75% so that it could sell more ads, people with knowledge of the matter said, a move that angered ABC executives.

And so ESPN, which accounts for about 25% of Disney's annual profit, seems to be caught in a pickle: It needs to boost revenue but cut costs. And this all while the price of its most coveted content — live sports — goes through the roof.

Well, shite, it is new years eve. Ain't no way I'm sitting at home on NYE to sit in front of the tv and watch anything. Even if it was AU playing, I would be out watching the game somewhere. I watched the MSU bama game this year, but only because I was in vegas and it started at 5pm local time. Again, no way I'm compromising NYE plans, the biggest party night of the year to stare at a tv at home.

That won't happen with the NFL playing on Sunday. NFL games will badly outdraw NY6 games.

2017 is identical to 2012. NFL will play their games on Sunday 1/1. Sugar and Rose will be on Monday the 2nd.

The Peach and Fiesta are semifinal hosts next year.

The leadership for the college football playoff is incapable of doing its job if it does not move the games from NYE.

It is all about making money and they are leaving millions on the table. It is nothing more than pure stupidity.
