So what is an appropriate defensive equivalent to the bat flip?
Yelling and staring the batter down after a K?

I have nothing against the bat flip

But the way Bautista did it last night was stupid. Pitcher staredown and a bat flip on a HR when you're down 4 in May>!

I want more creativity and panache. A formal bow...moonwalk around the mound...spin the glove on the finger like it's a basketball...toss the rosin bag in the air and everyone falls like it's a grenade...something better than a stare down.

It doesn't bother me, I would have been talking shite to him and pointing to the scoreboard though if I were an infielder for the Braves.

Nope, but I like that it bothers other teams.

The weirdest thing about being a casual/new baseball fan (after never playing the sport growing up) is all the little unwritten rules that people get pseudo-outraged about.

Personally I think it makes things more fun.

Freeman left the game before this happened. Braves have been hit 7 times in the series and might be without Freeman for who knows how long. Blue Jays had complained about Swanson dropping a line drive for a double play and complained about getting quick pitch.

But this is baseball. There shall be no showboating in baseball. Fastball to the head is the punishment for showboating.

Unwritten rule 5, section 3.

In his defense, not many hitters flirting with the Mendoza line get a lot of hard hit balls.

Freddie Freeman is always in the mix.

Freeman wasn't "in the mix" last night as he was getting x-ray's done on his wrist after being the 7th Braves player hit by the Blue Jays over 3 games. Then Pillar called Jason Motte a fa**ot after Motte struck him out. Then Bautista does a ridiculous bat flip with his team down 8-3 in the 8th inning. It was stupid and it's fairly understandable why the Braves are pissed at the Blue Jays.

Didn't Pillar yell at the pitcher right after this for supposedly quick pitching him. The Jays are a weird team

I don't get why the Braves got so mad. They're up by 4, all they have to do is laugh it off and Bautista looks like a douche for pimping a homer while his team is down by 4.

Instead, they got their panties in a bunch and now they are the ones that look like assholes. I'll never understand the pettiness of some teams to be so offended at a player celebrating.

Unwritten rule 1, section 1. Never intentionally throw at someone's head. A fast ball to the head of your best player is punishment for throwing at someone's head.

Yep and Pillar apologized after the game about it but last night got pretty close to being a brawl. If that up and in pitch hit Ender it would've escalated quickly. Wouldn't shock me if some of this carries over into tonight's game.

Agree. I did like the comment from the Braves pitcher saying he was surprised Jose was ready to fight again already after last year.

I wouldn't mind every one of our pitchers get thrown out tonight by throwing at him each time he is at the plate. Not because of the bat flip. I just like a good brawl.

My mistake. Saw thw replay and assumed it was Freeman yelling at him rounding first

Eta: just watched again it was indeed Peterson
