they got some good players in that trade, though .. if memory serves .. they traded one of those picks to the steelers and got emmitt smith with that pick ..

Right, the contract end dates for Brees and Peyton will mirror each other. Peyton most likely won't coach another QB. When Brees retires, Peyton moves to Dallas to be GM. just some insight I received this weekend. Subject to change, of Course. This post was edited

Anybody think Jerrah changes his mind about having a GM? Other than him, that is.

Great piece on the current state of the franchise
quote:

December is when we find an offensive line that cannot allow Romo time to throw. Last night, the Giants drove the Cowboys OL back into their QB again and again. And why would this surprise anyone? The Eagles did, too. So did the Cardinals. And the Giants 3 weeks ago. As a unit, the Cowboys OL failed again. And to show you their contributions as attrition took its toll, the Cowboys allowed 6 sacks in September, 9 in October, 5 in November, and 19 in December.

quote:

This is not a Tony Romo, Jason Garrett, or Rob Ryan issue. They should share in the blame, but this largely remains a Jerry Jones issue. He has built a stadium that can host a Super Bowl. But he sure hasn't built a roster that can play in one.

quote:

He is banking on you blaming Ryan, Romo, and Garrett again. And he is banking on you buying $340 tickets again next season. It will be interesting to see if or when the public will have had enough of his fantasy camp routine. Yes, it is his toy. But, much like a restaurant owner that wants to be chef, he will still need people to eat his meals.

yeah .. i thought earlier this season .. during the initial negotiations on brees' new deal that he wanted a longer duration than the team did ... he will be 33 years old on january 15th ... you can't commit yourself to a QB into his 40s contractually ... at around 36 or so .. virtually all of the greats watched their skills start to erode .. i think he gets a 5-year deal, tops ... i think he is wisely going to wait it out now .. he wins the super bowl and you have to give him more money than peyton manning basically ...

i doubt that chicken, JMO though. i could be wrong. i see brees playing til he is 40. If favre could do it still at a high level then brees can. maybe it will depend on how long he wants to play though especially if he gets another SB or two in the next 3 to 5 years. those things could be crucial determining factors without a doubt. i guess we'll see how it plays out.

overall .. how many QBs were top shelf effective over the last 15 or so years in the NFL after the age of 40 ?? favre was starting to flounder a bit with the packers in his late 30s before mccarthy and fresh talent came along .. then he got outplayed by eli manning in the NFC championship game .. he didn't do much, outside of text dick pics, with the Jets .. then had one great season in minnesota with some major talent around him and a freak at RB .. the next year, he went into the toilet ..

thankfully chicken has a sense of humor as I am sure he did that intentionally to mess with the likes of saints like me.

Now, if it was an accident(which i doubt) chicken will fess up and admit it, UNLIKE some here who cannot admit it when they make a mistake. I'll admit that is a pet peeve of mine on saints talk though.

oh i agree COMPLETELY with you. But Brees is special and I think he has the longevity in him similar to Favre. favre was very effective at his age. Brees would still be good enough to beat out most young bucs. notice i say most....now if we have a aaron rodgers in waiting like GB had behind Favre that changes things. i am just hoping he plays til he is 40. i am not making any predictions PAST THAT.

Don't be a saintard. Braes may be still be playing when he is 38 or 39 but he won't be putting up his current numbers. History testifies against it.

Back to Dallas now. If you are the gm next year... You have to massively change the talent level of this team. What do you do?

I would test the market for ware and Bryant and see I'd I can rack up some early picks.

where did i say he would be putting up his current numbers??? I said he could still play at a high level. a championship level. especially if he has a run game to help his PA ability. the guy can read a d like a children's novel. there is no reason to think he couldn't do it.

you see .. i don't think favre .. overall .. was THAT effective from the age of 35 to 40 .. once again .. the packers were losing with him at QB before mccarthy and some young talent came along in 2007 .. even favre himself said that was the best group of talent he had ever played with in green bay ... then, in the biggest game on the biggest stage .. his face was covered with snot and looked like an old man in five degree weather while a dude that grew up in balmly NOLA outplayed him in the same conditions .. his pick in OT was horrendous ... then he goes to the Jets and doesn't do shite .. has one great year with the vikings ..once again, with great talent .. but, once again came up short, thanks to a moronic, horrendous pick on the big stage ... then he looked sub pedestrian last season before being forced out the door .. now, at 42, he can't get a job as an emergency starter for anyone ..

dallas problem is coaching, not talent. now thats largely due to jerry wanting a yes man, but the main problem with that team is coaching. IMHO the cowboys are stacked with talent.
