if the saints manage to win the super bowl again .. it only raises the bar in NOLA and i think you start seeing the same apathy down there that you do in the LSU fan base somewhat since the 2007 NC .. at that point .. what more can payton do here if he wins it twice ? at that time you move to a bigger, high profile, zero to hero challenge .. and dallas would be perfect .. jason garrett is a good OC .. not an HC..
well, there are two points of contention here.
1) I think Payton is in New Orleans until Brees hangs it up. Who knows how long Brees wants to play but he'll be 37 when Payton's contract is up.
2) I almost think working for Jerry Jones is beginning to be like working for Al Davis. And I think other people are seeing it too.

Rag, I heard the same thing this weekend. UT putting out feelers for Saban...willing to pay him $70 million over 10 years.

Garrett is not a good oc. I like him as head coach but not calling plays.

but that might change a bit if miles beats him monday night ..
I'd hate to lose him, and honestly think he'd stay put, but the Sooners reaction to this would (almost) be worth it.

i agree .. but i also think a super bowl win next month changes the perspective a bit ..

that's why you break the bank with your contract with him .. the only coach that could actually win consistently for davis after tom flores was jon gruden .. and it is going to take that type of personality and style to do it with jones ... parcells' ego was the only one on the planet in dallas bigger than jerrah's was .. that is why that shite didn't work ... payton is smarter than that ..

Do most people assign the rebuilding of that franchise an subsequent success after Jones bought it to Jimmy Johnson?
I've heard interviews with Jimmy Johnson where he's stated that during the first few years after Jerry bought the team that Jimmy had complete control over player acquisitions. It was Jerry's full time job at that time to keep the franchise afloat after years of mismanagement by the previous owners. Once the Super Bowls wins started happening Jerry wanted more of the spotlight and credit for building the team.
Jerry is horrible at talent evaluation. When he brought Parcells in after the Dave Campo 5-11 era and gave him alot of control over player decisions, Parcells turned over almost the whole roster because there was nothing there.

nah .. i just think it takes some of the shine off of saban's coaching star ... i am convinced les miles retires as head coach here .. he and his wife are enjoying the life saban could have had had his dumb arse not gotten greedy ..

i had heard potentially $10 million a year with incentives and salary combined .. i think the whore will jump at that .. especially if he loses monday night .. that ratchets up the pressure in the steam cooker in tuscaloosa if he loses to miles twice in the same year ...

Agree. I think the only question is does Les want to be AD after coaching.

les is already calling the shots with martin and bobby jindal, relative to alleva, so i think it would be a natural transition .. i think miles would make a great AD ..

Peyton moves to Dallas to be GM.
Does anyone think JJ will ever hire a GM? I think he goes the Al Davis/Mike Brown route and never hires a General Manager.

Jimmy Johnson tried to trade up to get James Francis in the first round. Cincinnati took Francis out from under Jimmy and he had to settle for a slow undersized running back from Florida.
Jimmy also wasted a future first round pick by taking Steve Walsh in the supplemental draft when they already had aikman

the ENTIRE revival of the cowboys organization hinged on that grand larceny known as the hershel walker trade with the minnesota vikings for an assload of draft picks .. with all of those picks, johnson put together the nucleus that the organization would ride for the next decade and three super bowls ..

after sunday night's game, JJ doesn't look like he's too far away from joining al davis .. he looked awful ..

Eh not as grand a larceny as you think if you look at who was actually drafted wit hose picks. Could have been a lot better.
They hit on some small school guys like Erik Williams and Larry Allen, Tony Tolbert, Larry brown leon lett Made some good free agent signings like novacek, casillas and most of all traded for Charles Haley

Don't forget about Felix Jones either. A 1st round pick that never amounted to anything and got outshined by a rookie.

johnson clearly went the former hurricane route with his early personnel moves .. and you can't blame him since, at that time, UM had enough talent to compete in the NFL .. the problem was that johnson rode that hurricane horse into the ground, IMO ..

Yep there were some good ones but the Walsh move was idiotic. Irvin was drafted by Tom Landry. They later took darrin smith, Kevin Williams and probably more I'm forgetting
