He's an all-time great based on his offensive production as a shortstop. No modern era player that played his entire career at shortstop come close to that production.

No modern day player has been as terrible at SS and stayed there his entire career as Jeter has.

So it's safe to say that beltran would have FAR surpassed those numbers had he had the benefit of playing in New York his entire career.

Chipper's homerun numbers peaked at the end of the 90s... Why is this?

this whole thread is terrible. 4 pages, and not once does anyone mention that the stats of HOF players are classified by their position. Chipper Jones, among 3B, is right up there with anyone. Cal RIpken played his career at SS mainly. Hard to compare the 2.

Chipper's superlatives among 3B & switch hitters makes him one of the GOATS in each respective sub division.

He's probably a top 3 switch hitter of all time, and a top 5 3B of all time.

Basketball season is over so LeBron can't be everybody's punching bag....so let's use Jeter.

No. Schmidt Brett Boggs Matthews Robinson are top 5. Chipper is 6th or 8th depending on whether we include Cabrera and A-Rod

Who is better?
Schmidt?
Robinson?
Brett?
Matthews?
Boggs?
Rolen?

I could make argument that Chipper is third best 3rd baseman of all time

I mentioned it. That is why Jones will sail in and Bagwell is struggling (one reason at least). Third base is a weird position in terms of the HOF. Not as power-laden as corner OFs or 1B, but much more of a hitting position than the other infield positions.

As far as peak seasons go not close Cal's top 3 seasons>>>>>>>Any of Chippers seasons

Is this a joke?

Ripken's top 3 seasons at the plate were:

.323/.374/.566 (.940 OPS)
.340/.368/.584 (.952 OPS)
.318/.371/.517 (.888 OPS)

Chipper's top 3:
.319/.441/.633 (1.074 OPS)
.364/.470/.574 (1.044 OPS)
.330/.427/.605 (1.032 OPS)

Ripken had 2 seasons with an OPS above .900

Chipper had 11 seasons with an OPS above .900

Exactly how is Jeter overrated?
Dude has been one of most consistent hitters since he entered the league and has been average/below average defensively

Who then?

He's 5 at the least.

schmidt, matthews, brett, brooks robinson?

I cant imagine anyone taking Boggs over Jones in their prime. That's like saying Tony Gwynn was better then Barry Bonds

I like Rolen a lot but he shouldn't be on that list. I don't think he has a great HOF shot. He is not as big of a surprise after his last couple of years, but Beltre's numbers are pretty great. I think he'll make it and if he can hold on a couple of more solid years, he can put up some unreal numbers for a third baseman.
