Know how we know you don't watch basketball? Which players who are major representatives of today's game lack fundamentals?
When they can't win the fundamentals argument, they'll switch to the "toughness" argument.

He played from 1985-2004. That was a great era for the NBA, regardless of what your opinion is regarding today's game.

What about 3pt shooting isn't fundamental?

If you've been watching the NBA you'd realize that isolation scoring has declined largely because of the defensive rule changes. There was more "one on one, crazy dribbling" in the 90s when defenses couldn't help off-ball as freely as they can now.

Didn't you know? Westbrook looks angry a lot of the time and jacks up lots of shots so he must care more than everyone else right?

Right?

Yes to the first half. No to the second half. Those 65-61 Knicks games that were glorified rugby scrums set basketball back a decade.

Oakley may be wrong but there isn't a player in today's NBA that would tell him to his face.

On second thought, there wasn't many that would when he was playing either

If your goal was to post something more ridiculous than what was in the OP, congratulations.

Crazy stat. Guess who has pulled down the most rebounds in a game since 1988?

Charles Oakley. 35 rebounds.

IMO Oakley is correct. Fundamentals are lacking in today's game. Today's game has a street ball effect to it. A bunch of one on one, crazy dribbling, 3pt shooting. While it's enjoyable to watch, it may not be the best brand of basketball.

if there was ever an era of "streetball" post 1983, it was during Oak's run with the knicks in that terrible mid-late 90s riley ball, grabbing, iso-dominated era

nless you like those 85-82 games where both teams struggle to shoot 40% from the field, there was a lot more of that in the 90s.

That was the aughts, in the post-Jordan era. Let's compare some averages from 20 years ago. This year v. 1994-95:

Pts: 99.8 v 101.4
Pace: 93.9 v 92.9
FG%: 448 v 466
3PT: 349 v 359
eFG: 495 v 500
3PA: 22.4 v 15.3
ORB: 10.9 v 13.0
AST: 22.0 23.4
ORtg: 105.5 v 108.3

So, scoring is down despite a higher pace. We jack up more 3's now, resulting in less offensive boards and less assists. And despite taking so many threes, we have a lower effective shooting rate now and a lower points per 100 possessions.

Yeah, basketball really sucked back then.

That era kind of reminds me of the West this year. The talent is spread out, everyone has their guys and these dudes aren't friendly with each other. Back then you had the Bulls, Pacers, Knicks, Magic in the East with Seattle, Phoenix, Houston, San Antonio, Portland and Utah out West. Those teams hated each other. I think the competition is what makes the NBA great.

Playoff's are completely different story. I love the NBA playoffs. Playoff basketball used to be an every night effort back in that era.

I have no idea what you're watching.

Offenses and defenses are soooo much more complex in today's game, it's really not close.
