LINK
I could just pick out the quotes that I think are laughably ridiculous, but then I'd just be copy/pasting the entire link.

"I don't know what it is. They just roll you out there like a basketball. That's why ... you see the same teams in the finals or winning 55 games. Strong teams, strong-minded coach. Just the players, they don't think it, they don't know how to play together," he said. "So that's one of things I see the weakness is: Communication, the guys don't love the game. They play the game, but they don't play with their heart."

Better hope Oak doesn't see this thread.

Charles Oakley: NBA 'hard to watch'
In fairness, the current NBA probably is very hard to watch forCharles Oakley.
The sophistication in defensive schemes and offensive philosophies predicated on efficiency and spacing is something that he probably can't understand at all.
The level of play has risen to a point where he likely cannot comprehend it and thus has a hard time watching it.

This guy will straigthen things out for us.
He's seen BOTH eras and he KNOWS things us YOUNG PUPS can't understand.
He offers a very level-headed and hard to argue against analysis.
The game was better in his day. But he will admit the current game has some decent players. He's on record stating that Lebron is better than 75% of players from the 90's.

the game was more enjoyable to watch in the 90's.
The game is so much better now.
Unless you like those 85-82 games where both teams struggle to shoot 40% from the field, there was a lot more of that in the 90s.

IMO Oakley is correct. Fundamentals are lacking in today's game. Today's game has a street ball effect to it. A bunch of one on one, crazy dribbling, 3pt shooting. While it's enjoyable to watch, it may not be the best brand of basketball.

That Jordan era had some incredible years. Players really cared about winning and losing. This generation has lost that edge, with the exception of a select few like Westbrook. The AAU mentality is strong now.

Nostalgia has really fogged things up for people. Watch the NBA playoffs this year, and tell me these players don't care about winning.

Know how we know you don't watch basketball? Which players who are major representatives of today's game lack fundamentals?
