Michigan State and Notre Dame over Ole Miss?

Both have a "better loss" than ole miss

Alabama did NOT look good vs a Tennessee team they should've manhandled.

But both don't have nearly as good of wins.

Again, what have those two teams done besides lose close games on the road? Michigan State beat Nebraska. Notre Dame beat Stanford.

Ole Miss lost a game on the road to LSU that Michigan State and Notre Dame probably couldn't win either. And then they also have two wins against ranked teams. One being a top 5 team in the country. And if you're gonna give Notre Dame credit for beating Stanford, then you have to give Ole Miss credit for beating Boise.

I don't think Alabama looked great against Tennessee. I have them 6th. I think people are overvaluing them. But you might be undervaluing them a bit here.

It's entirely possible.

That's what is going to make this interesting.

Alabama has one win over a ranked team. aTm, who isn't in it anymore. West Virginia was not ranked when Alabama beat them. They are now, but they likely won't be after this weekend.

How come when people want to use the "eye test," they only seem to want to use it for SEC teams?

If a team from the Big 12 or Pac 12 had zero or one win over ranked teams, we wouldn't have them anywhere near the top 3.

Is it because of what they've done over the past five seasons? Their brand name? What the conference as a whole has done?

Just wondering. It's always interesting to me. Still seems like if they're gonna base this thing off of strength of schedule and overall resumes, then they should do that evenly across the conferences.

Your hate for Bama is palpable. How did it feel beating them in the Sugar Bowl only to start the season ranked behind them?

I pretty much agree with this.

Except I'd have TCU #4. Notre Dame way down lower.

Yea, that 4th place is difficult right now. It could be a number of teams. I am a homer but we really have the best resume to be #3 right now. But make no mistake, we will not be there tonight. It will be Alabama

We have a better win and a better loss than them. We also have handled teams that we both played better than them. Wont matter

The reason they are starting with the rankings tonight instead of at the end of the year is to get everyone rilled up and for people to watch the show. They will get that. Half of the people involved will be pissed off at 8:00 tonight.

That will drive ratings

TCU has looked really impressive so far. I kinda find myself hoping that they win the Big 12 and get into the playoff. If they were named OU there would be no question they would be included but the opinion polls are reliably biased in favor of name programs over lesser, or no-name, programs

How is Auburn and MSU separated by only 2 spots when MSU absolutely trounced Auburn?

Yet....

#2 Florida State
#15 Notre Dame

FSU needed a little home cooking to bail them out of a game in which ND looked like the better team, yet they are 13 spots apart?

Doesn't compute.

Yeah.

They don't defend the pass terribly well, and that's exactly what WVU does well.

Interesting matchup. Will be impressed if they go up there and win.

did you watch the game?

Auburn is up there due to the fact that we have higher wins and our loss was against the #1 team.

Notre Dame should not be 15

As of today, here are my playoff rankings:

1 Mississippi State
2 Florida State
3 Auburn
4 Kansas State
5 Oregon
6 Ole Miss
7 TCU
8 Arizona
9 Alabama
10 Michigan State
11 Baylor
12 Notre Dame
13 Georgia
14 LSU
15 Arizona State
16 Nebraska
17 Utah
18 Ohio State

K-State ahead of other Big 12 teams since they have the best "loss" to Auburn (good team, close game) and the wins are relatively even. I do think TCU and Baylor with both beat K-State.

Pac-12 champ should get in.
