See, I think that would clear some things up. Now you don't have a team up there based on what they did last year anymore. They are being put there because of them being there at the beginning of the year. They lose and they are out. No doubt

They win out, and they're a 12-1 conference champion. They have just as much, if not more, of a chance than a 12-1 Big Ten champion.

They are the defending champs. If they win their conference, even with a loss, the committee will give them high consideration.

Also, a good chance a few other conferences spit out some 2-loss champions. Would they go over a 1-loss champion who just happens to be the defending national champion?

It seems like the perception of the ACC is so low, they could be in a "must win" situation.

But I do agree with your statement. It just seems like they are in a must win due to a very bad schedule

Fixed it for Bama. Can someone tell me what they have done that justifies being the top one loss team?

Nothing.

Based on resume, they are the 4th best one-loss team right now.

They do have a bad schedule.

However, they would get in over a one-loss Ohio State if it came down to that. Maybe not a one-loss Michigan State, considering the Spartans have a much better loss than OSU.

I agree, and it is funny how everyone wants to put them so much higher than Mississippi. If the result of the games on the field doesn't matter, why even play the games.

It'll be interesting to see Auburn/Ole Miss this weekend... What's your take on that game?

Seems like Auburn has had their struggles the last two games, especially stopping the pass. Bo Wallace could carve them up.

I know LSU ran all over Ole Miss last weekend, but our offensive line probably matches up with Ole Miss' smaller defensive line better than Auburn's does. However, they are beat up on the defensive line, so Auburn could take advantage there.

But I think sweeps and zone read keepers against an athletic defense on all three levels (like Ole Miss has) might not be super effective.

I think Marshall will have to make some plays in the passing game for Auburn to win. Am I off base here?

We somewhat struggle against South Carolina but they made a lot of plays. We did not struggle against LSU two games ago. I think the game will be a good game but we should be able to run the ball fairly well only him and I don't see them scoring a lot of points

I believe our power running game will do fine. Marshall has also been fairly consistent throwing the ball lately

Wasn't sure if the CFP voting procedures had been posted anywhere recently... So here ya go:

To answer a lot of questions, here's the procedure the Committee started today:

College Football Playoff Selection Committee Voting Process

1) Each committee member will create a list of the 25 teams he or she believes to be the best in the country, in no particular order. Teams listed by three or more members will remain under consideration.

2) Each member will list the best six teams, in no particular order. The six teams receiving the most votes will comprise the pool for the first ranking step.

3) In the first ranking step, each member will rank those six teams, one through six, with one being the best. The three teams receiving the fewest points will become the top three seeds. The three teams that were not seeded will be held over for the next ranking step.

4) Each member will list the six best remaining teams, in no particular order. The three teams receiving the most votes will be added to the three teams held over to comprise the next ranking step.

5) Steps No. 3 and 4 will be repeated until 25 teams have been seeded. There will be seven rounds of voting; each round will consist of a “listing step” and a “ranking step.”

Notes:

* Any “recused” member can participate in Step No. 1, but cannot list the team for which he or she is recused. “Recused” teams (i.e., teams for whom a member has been recused) receiving at least three votes in Step No. 1 will remain under consideration.

* A recused member can participate in Step No. 2, but cannot list the recused team. If a recused team is within one vote of advancing to the pool, that team will be pooled with the team (or teams) receiving the fewest votes. A “tie-breaker” ranking vote will be conducted among those teams to identify the team or teams that would be added to the pool.

* A recused member cannot participate in Step No. 3 if the recused team is in the pool.

* Between each step, the committee members will conduct a thorough evaluation of the teams before conducting the vote.

* After each round is completed, any group of three or more teams can be reconsidered if more than three members vote to do so. Step No. 3 would be repeated to determine if adjustments should be made.

* After the first nine teams are seeded, the number of teams listed in Step No. 2 will be increased to eight, and the number of teams seeded and held in Steps No. 3 and 4 will be increased to four.

* At any time in the process, the number of teams to be included in a pool may be increased or decreased with approval of more than eight members of the committee.

* After any round of voting, a team or teams may be added to the initial pool by an affirmative vote of three or more committee members.

* All votes will be by secret ballot.

Chew on that for a bit.

Notre Dame hasn't beaten anybody worth anything this year yet. Their only game of note is a loss to Florida State. Until they do something to merit a higher ranking, I think the middle of the top 25 is a good spot for a team whose only selling point is their overall record.

Auburn beat LSU and Kansas State, two top-15 teams. Of course they're rated a lot higher.

Florida State would probably be lower than #3 if they had lost that game too. IDK if I'd put them at #15, since they did beat a decent Clemson team, but they'd be out of my top 10 for sure.
