And honestly, do people really don't think a school like WM "recruits"? They definitely do.

No they don't recruit. But over the past 20 years there has been a population shift from Monroe to West Monroe. A bunch of the players at WM would have been at either Ouachita Christian or Neville had they stayed in Monroe. This is what got the WM program really going. Now, parents move into this school district for the purpose of football. Many of the kids are held back in elementary school so that they are 19 year old seniors. So, they don't recruit directly, it's more like the school is recruited by parents searching for football opportunities.

Unless I'm mistaken, private schools went 2-2 this weekend in the Superdome. How unfair can it be?

Which is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. Worded it wrongly.

Then you are correct.

This is why I believe LHSAA should adopt and OPEN class for all sports. Any school choosing to declare open would be able to do so. This would also have the benefit of more out of state matchups and regional telecast.

This would be beneficial not just to football but to baseball and girls softball as well. The baseballers and softballers routinely play tournament ball all over the country in the summer anyway.

for the record your old school ideals about public schools having a "zone" and all of the kids living in that zone attending their neighborhood public schools died a long time ago. When the Federal Government started the desegregation cases, increased the scrutiny over standardized test scores and implemented no child left behind they inadvertently opened the doors to public schools openly recruiting athletes and using a myriad of methods to make them eligible.

There is a prominent PUBLIC HS basketball team in our area that has in their top ten players:
1) four of them that currently live out of the HS zone
2) three of them that went from being classified as 6th graders to 10th graders in 3 school semesters and 2 summer school sessions
3) 2 of them that are not enrolled in the regular HS but are instead enrolled in a special education curriculum that literally requires them only to show up everyday and that is pretty much it
4) one of them that got in trouble at another parish school by verbally abusing a teacher and moved to the new school and was immediately granted eligibility because his family "moved." which meant they left one rent house and moved into another rent house in the proper "zone"

it is infinitely easier to shuffle kids in and out of public school programs where the layers of bureaucracy are overwhelming, the school principals have so much power, there is little checks and balances for eligibility and there is no financial obligation for the student

it is infinitely more difficult to bring kids into a private school because of the intense amount of eligibility paperwork and checks and balances the LHSAA requires, the willingness of local public schools to turn them in and the "money trail" of financial obligations of every private school student

Well the LHSAA is and has been off on some of the residency requirement stuff.. and this is not a new problem..goes back a long way....

but. over the years... especially when kids are NOT living with the parent or guardian that actually has legal custody of them....

real good RB that played for a team that WON state.. should have by rule been ineligible.....it just makes the news when private schools make a mistake..

WM wasn't always good.... coaching changes things... heck it wasn't long ago that PBS would go Oh For the season..

It's only Curtis and Evangel that recruit basically their entire team

I disagree with that

Evangel and Curtis don't have to go out in the community and approach kids. Everyone in their area knows who they are and what they are about already and the program's parents do the majority of the talking to outsiders.

So will Curtis go back to 4A? Will Evangel go to 5A? Curtis won't go to 5A because, "They can't compete in 5A in the other sports." Atleast that's what JT always said before. Evangel is not as good as they were before. I could see them choosing 3A instead of moving all the way to 5A. Since Neville fans claim they are the best in the state will they move back up to 5A?

this has been misrepresented for years

what JT Curtis was talking about was his GIRL'S Sports. JCC has more than enough athletes and quality coaching to compete in any boy's sport they want to but it is the girl's sports that would suffer with a 2A enrollment competing at the 5A level.

I've always said that the privates should not be allowed to pick and choose the classes they want to be in. There was a reason Curtis never opted to move to 5A. They couldn't dominate the WM's and Evangels. There was a reason Evangel waited until 2000 or 2001 to move to 5A. I say put all the privates in the same class whether it be 1A or 5A.

Cool. I couldn't find any "official" numbers on them, but multiple websites indicate their enrollment to be above 233 which lshaa.org states is the max for 1A.
