At a public school, you couldn't graduate and take gym for 50% of your classes your senior year (here's looking at you Evangel).
I went to Louisiana public school (Tara). My senior year consisted of 1 English followed by 3 PE's (gym). If you finish all your grad requirements early, you can do this.

1-0 vs Curtis too

The only private school I remember beating West Monroe in the past 20 years is Evangel. Acadiana, Sulphur, Destrehan, Natchitoches Central, Southwood, and Lagrange are the only other teams to beat Shows in the playoffs at WM since 89. All public...

Not sure if your post is directed to me or not, but I don't feel like private schools are repeating. However, I would like to see an open class with all of the powerhouses, even though I don't believe it would ever happen.

Do you know off hand what Evangel and JC's records are? I am thinking either 2-2 or 3-2 JC.

In my opinion, the advantages that Evangel enjoys are as follows:

1. Faith based atmosphere sure doesn't hurt the team's ability to feel purposeful.
2. The school's team is managed by former college and pro starters. In the public H.S. system, schools get what they get through the system. If they're lucky, they get a decent head coach and assistants. If not, then too bad. Evangel can recruit the right coaches who are committed.
3. A fan base that gives extra of their offerings and personal time to improve the facilities.

So, in my opinion, it would be equally unfair to deny Evangel an opportunity to play for the championship simply because through faith, hard work and committment, they circumvent the handicap placed on the other schools by the ineptitude of the public school system, the lack of a faith-based atmosphere that the public schools have to present and the lack of support and volunteerism by the parents and constituency.

That's not Evangel's fault.

And honestly, do people really don't think a school like WM "recruits"? They definitely do. Like I said, maybe it's not the coach directly going out to get guys (though it's possible), but the program recruits for itself. Guys move there to play football.

I know Evangel beat them in the Hap Gaudi and last night so atleast 2 wins for Evangel.

Kids ought to be able to go to school wherever they want, would solve this perceived or real unfairness and a lot of other problems.

Of course, keeping mediocre teachers and administrators employed in crappy districts is way more important than maximizing opportunities for kids.

Lets cut to the meat of this, the state playoffs and high school football in Louisiana would be better off without Evangel and John Curtis cause they simply don't play under the same rules as the rest of us. When they are not in your classification you have other schools getting a chance, thats why no one wants them. Again how many people watched them play, not many.

Sounds good in theory, but not in practice.

don't they have seperate divions for public and parochial schoools. They live by different rules re recruiting right?

In LA recruiting is illegal for any high school public or private. There are only 2 private schools in LA that are notorious for it. Also, they do play according to enrollment, hence 1-5A.

Clearly the OP was cut from his local private school, and then they beat his brains in for 4 years. The only time that anyone bitches about it in KY is when Lexington Catholic wins a state in anything. Meanwhile St X and Trinity play in the 6a state championship just about every year and nothing gets said.

As the father o two boys who attended a private catholic high school, and had to scrape and sacrifice to make the tuition payments, believe me when I tell you, it would be vry difficult for most parents to be able to afford holding their child back a year just to play football. Does it ever happen? Probably so, but it sure would be an easier financial decision to make if my kid went to a public school and didn't cost me anything to hold him back a year. So don't tell me that doesn't happen more often in a public school.

It hasn't even been done, yet, so...

I guess I interpret that as turing every school into a private school (yet you still don't have to pay for a public, but anyone can go there). If that was the case, you'd have all kids that live in bad areas try to go to the good public schools. It just wouldn't work. Even in the public schools that "recruit" you still have to at least move to the area.

im pretty sure that in California, a kid can go to any school in the state.. if they are outside of the 'district', they just have to have their own transportation

Hmm. Surprised it works, cause they'd almost certainly have to cap it/have a lottery, and I could see that getting ugly, but maybe I'm overthinking things.
