Totally get that. Don't blame ya a bit Thanks for setting me straight. Can easily see how it could grow into one of those larger than life tales.

felt your nba fandom is what got us here, so it was nascar or a&m... considering sec women's swimming results from the weekend, i chose cars. Nothing personal.

Ahh, now it makes sense

John Smoltz- Golf

I think there are a number of baseball players who have picked up golf and really excelled at it. Smoltz is a hell of a golfer and Tiger Woods supposedly called him one of the base non-PGA tour golfers that he knows.

In the spirit of this thread, however, I think the real answer for Smoltz is basketball. I believe he had a basketball scholarship to play at Michigan State but went pro in baseball instead.

Allen Iverson loved football and was so dominant in VA before realizing he would make much more $$$ in basketball.

I've heard scouts say he was the best high school football player they had ever seen. Some of his few highlights are unreal.

Don't know if it was his first love but Allen Iverson was apparently even better at football than he was at basketball.

He was supposedly one of the best football players in Virginia high school football history

I was in HS in NoVa at the same time Iverson was playing in HS in the 757 area. We all knew about him, how good he was. He was the HS player of the year in both basketball and football, as a junior. And both sports won state championships. Unreal. And then the whole arrest thing happened and when he was pardoned, Georgetown was willing to give him a chance.

Not sure if Charlie Ward has been mentioned. And no idea if he loved football more than basketball.

Cause he's from a small country... fact is best nba swimmer is likely Kris Humphries

Kris Humphries could have been the GOAT swimmer. At the same age he dominated Michael Phelps and Ryan Locte. He held records in like 5 or 6 different swims. He just got burned out. He said he was too good at an early age and it just wasn't a challenge.

He picked up basketball as a teen and just stuck with it.

I always thought it was ironic that Danny Ainge and Charlie Ward had to settle for playing in the NBA because they were told they were too small to play their favorite sports.

LSU's own Marcus Spears was an outstanding high school basketball player, not sure which one was his favorite.

Iirc and got the right Giants DE, Michae Strahan didn't play football until his senior year of high school.

Hakeem was a soccer player

Idk if that's their first love but they played those sports before becoming a pro in the one they played in.

To me, the answer is clearly Barkley and golf.

How many people would continue to LOVE to play something that hates them so much?

Tony Romo has been pretty outspoken about his golf is his favorite sport.
