Active Starting Pitchers have virtually no shot at the HOF (except Kershaw)!

I'd think Scherzer would have a shot. 20k game, multiple no-no's, multiple Cy Youngs and several years to go.

Making HOF as a starter is getting harder and harder

Not as much games pitched or innings pitched as past generations so stats cant be racked up

Have to stay injury free and dominant enough to where batters cant figure you out. I'm sure most of us thought Lincecum was on the HOF track then he got figured out.

I think Mad Bum has a case though

Great starting pitchers have gone the way of the running back. Teams don't need ace starting pitchers to win anymore either in the regular season or the postseason. They just need guys who can eat up six innings and keep the game close before turning it over to their bullpen.

Kind of off topic, but how did Tim Lincecum fall off so bad? Always wondered that.

Velocity fell, control went, and people figured out his delivery which is why his LD% and his hard contact% went up

Sandy Koufax had 165 wins and retired at age 30 in a workhorse, 4-man rotation era.

Mad Bum has 100 at age 26. He has to average 16 for 4 years to hit Koufax's marks.

Don Drysdale was in the same Dodgers rotation for 14 years in the same era, has 209 wins, and he's in.

Justin Verlander has been a starter for 11 seasons and has 173. He has to average 12 wins to age 36, and he hits those marks. Plus an MVP and 2 no-hitters.

I feel like eventually the criteria will change just as the game has changed. With innings limits and limiting starts, 250 is almost impossible. Don't think we will ever see a 300 game winner again.

Bumgarner will get in, Verlander has a pretty good shot too I think. People don't care about wins anymore.

This is a huge issue with pitchers. I remember when Fernando Valenzuela was a rookie phenom and one TV broadcaster gushed "You can prepare his place in the HOF right now."
