Deion Sanders: "I kick the field goal... If you were gonna get that 15, you would've gotten it before."

Steve Mariucci also says kick the FG and estimates that 4th and 15 is an 8% chance (can't imagine that is true, but 8% has to be higher than the alternative).

Mike Smith's decision has to be among the worst of the NFL season. There is no way you can kick there and hope to get an onside kick (likely < 10% chance) or a stop AND drive to FG range again.

Primetime also said the UGA safeties did nothing wrong by not batting it down, because "playmakers make plays".

It was the right call. Assuming he makes it, which is a good assumption because Bryant is a good kicker, then a touchback, the Saints start at the 20, up 1.

You know the Saints are just going to run it and force TOs, so stop them.

Statistically, a 4th and 15 is similar to an onside kick, about a 20% success rate.

Well except the saints didn't just run it. They did pass after they got the ball back

My point still stands. Your defense held the Saints, in their last 4 drives (and an end of half "drive"), to 3 points. That is reason enough to try and leave the game in their hands.

Yes, it turns out, they failed.

It was a low success rate either way it went. Kicking ?the field goal was not that bad imo

For 2010-this game, Bryant was 9/9 on 50+ yard kicks. I'd say it was a "safe" kick for him.

Wrong decision tho imo. You aren't too far from the goal line and were moving the ball fairly well. If you give the ball to the saints you might not even get it back. Might as well go for the win. What do you have to lose?

You're 2-8...freakin' go for it.

4th and 15 vs...(making a long arse FG...and then stopping Drew Brees...and then Matt Ryan driving you down in position again with little time left.)

I'll take the Occam's Razor.

The whole point of that slow drive seemed to be TD or bust.

I agreed with the kick. Their defense had been stopping the Saints offense for most if the second half. It wasn't completely out there to think they could within 1, kick, force a three and out, and get the ball back.

I mean you can just count on getting a 4th and 15. You might as well go to your near automatic kicker to get you within 1 and try to get the ball back for a GW FG

Yeah that's what I'm saying. They were moving the ball and eating clock. Why not go for it? Not like a playoff spot was on the line.

Agreed. It was the right call, IMO.
