Oh no doubt. He believed it would topple governments and whatnot.

I could never tell if I wasn't smart enough to get why bitcoin was going to take down tyrants or not crazy enough.

Bitcoin is down around $230, so either way, you were smart.

What was it when Wiki was most active

It was around its peak at $1000 I think when I last saw him post. He boasted that he had over 1,000 bitcoins so that would make him rich if he unloaded them.

Then again, I have no idea how all that works and he was probably full of shite.

1k bitcoins? That's nearly unpossible. I started mining to see what it was, and told him when it was around $1k per to gtfo if he actually had any of them.

My experience with cryptocurrency was this: set up computers to work on getting coins, check on them, and see how many you've made day by day, log on and see the site is shutting down because another cryptocurrency group has hacked the servers and compromised the entire system, lose whatever peanuts you never had in the first place, switch to a new currency, wait a month, same thing happens, pull the plug.

Im just passing on what I recall from that far back. I could be way off base but I do remember thinking that he would have $1 million if he cashed them in.

Absolutely not. One day he would say "This will destroy the Federal Reserve". And he would say something else the next day in order to play both sides of the aisle. A few people saw what he was doing. He was disingenuous about the entire process and this went on for years.

Russian seems to have a problem doing that

Yeah, I always really liked the dude as a poster, but his behavior in St. George threads was way, way, way beyond the pale for me personally. Lost most of my respect for him there.

...and no Russian, I don't care or give 3 sh!ts if you ever had any respect to begin with for me, Mr. Rabbit Ears...

Maybe you shouldn't get your feelings hurt when they disagree with you.

Where is Wik just in general? I always liked that dude.

Last I saw, he posted that he wasn't really posting anymore because he had found a simpler way of living. He said he didn't even watch sports because he was finding solace and fulfillment in raising chickens at his house.

No, seriously. He said he left because he's putting his efforts into raising chickens.

Why? When I first heard of bitcoins they were trading at ~$3 per. Wish I had bought a few.

He always tried to make it (bitcoin) a political deal.

I was like, dump it at $1K and laugh all the way to the bank.

"No, its gonna be worth 10x that!"

OK...

The funny thing is the bitcoin guys are usually uber libertarian types who distrusted the Fed/electronic printing press/big banking and favored hard assets like gold. I get that. But, then they got seduced by this new obscure web based concept of money, thinking it is impenetrable and completely trustworthy. It never made sense to me. And they would always just say "you don't understand how it works."
